I'm a Canadian citizen from Toronto planning a visit to Japan in the next 6-12 months. But rather than fly out of Toronto, I plan on flying out of an American airport (likely Buffalo) as the prices are more than 50% less.

I'm wondering, is there a problem with customs (US and Canadian) if you were to travel into the US to depart for the destination overseas.

Anyone done this, any problems? I know a lot of the time Toronto flights to Asia/Australia connect via an american airport anyways, but to start your trip in the U.S as a Canadian, is this OK?

Any information would gladly help,

Thanks.

You shouldn't have any troubles, many Canadian citizens drive to a US airport for int'l flights. As you probalby know, waits for customs when crossing land border can very greatly, so allow for extra time.
