I was asked to sling four 26' ten man canoes about ten miles. How would you rig them?

tie them all together and leave them on the ground!!!
😛 😀 😀

Ten miles, I'd bring about five hours of fuel and then chicken out.

Please, please put them on a long line. How to rig them together is a tough one, 🙁 never had to sling more than one at a time, maybe two together, with two more hanging below? I would be worried about them banging into one another if tied together, Good luck. Go slow and be very careful.

To sling one canoe, hang it vertically on a long-line, and tie a tree branch ONTO the canoe to act as a tail so it doesn't spin. (Tying a tree branch or tire etc. onto a rope on the bottom won't stop it from spinning).

For four canoes, tie the ugliest creation you can so it won't start flying by itself, brief the customer that it will be a slow trip, and plan your fuel accordingly.

This stuff is not an exact science, there are no rules, just be safe and you'll have a great story to tell, (and post a photo here when it's all over).

Suggest you cover over the holes, so they don't become a bucket - possibly put some ballast in as well. If you can get a large enough net, so much the better

I have flown a only a few canoe's in the past. The reply's on here are definately on track. A MUST is a longline!!!! Rig two nets together, so you can cradle the cargo, They WILL want to FLY! Try to fill them with gear if there is any or some weight in the net. It will be a VERY SLOW trip, not to mention some of the akward flight attitudes the machine will encounter when the wind catches the inside of the canoes. If you can create a drag chute behind the sling with another net or tree, this will help the 'spinning' process!!

I agree with the "drag chute" idea! This is HUGE! Cut a tree the size of a decent Christmas tree and tie it to the load with a few feet of rope. Also, DEFINITELY use a longline.........................

ps. or just use a medium and put them inside 😀

SOB,

I remember slinging lots of ugly stuff with you. With ugly nets as well. If anything was uglier than normal, I turned away and hid behind the nearest large object. I didn't want to know.

Does anyone remeber RF's canoe incident in Fort Vermillion? Was he on a longline or short line? All I know is that the canoe meeting T/R created an aweful mess.

I once saw a boat successfully longlined, with alot of ballast, but the tricky part was the final placement, it was all over the place. Be careful no matter what stage you're in.

Those canoes sound like the kind the Voyager's used to use. You should just supply the guys with some foam padding for their shoulders and tell 'em to do it the old fashioned way. 😛

Hughy's Lover, please note these canoes (4 of them) are 26 feet long........ that might be hard to fit in a medium................even for top-guns like you and me !!

boys boys boys....... 🙄

must i get everything done around here..... 😀 😀 😀
