Celebrity Sightings on US Airways

Once in MKE, I had Jeff Gordon in the seat behind me, he won some race and had a huge glass trophy. I had no idea who he was, but people kept asking him for autographs, seemed like a nice guy.

I used to always see Louie Anderson at LAX catching the first flight back to LAS after I would go HNL-LAX-PHX.

Flown with lots of Senators and Congressfolk and a few nationally syndicated writers who only a geek like me knew.

Once at LAX, shared the boarding area with Al "Grandpa Munster" Lewis, he was pretty old, but funny as hell and one really nice guy.

I once flew to SAN to watch the US Men's national soccer team, then had Brian McBride and Brian Maisonneuve, on the flight to LAS, very nice guys, and happy that someone recognized them!

Was on an America West flight with Sinbad around 2000. Looked like he was having an anxiety attack.

Pushed a flight to DCA containing the artist formerly known as Lil Bow Wow. He was up at the gate acting like a lil gangster. Funny as he grew up in a middle class neighborhood and I haven't ever seen any gangster rappers there. 🙄

I was at PHX when Richard Simmons slapped the big guy making smart comments. Apparently the bully was in the gate area saying something to the effect of "Oh look! Richard Simmons is on this flight! We'll be sweatin' to the oldies!" Richard walked up to him, slapped the snot out of the bully and said, "THAT is how I handle a bully!"

Do not ask Prince for his autograph...

While as a gate agent, Tony Bennett, super super nice.

Kenny Loggins oh so very thin
Numerous ball players, once a Red Sox,Nomar Garciaparra so nice and down to earth.

Jay Leno when he was doing the Dorito's commercial, sat in the boarding area eating, u guessed it Doritos, wanted to be noticed.

Hulk Hogan, walking the concourse, again looking for attention.

George Hamilton, tanned and orange as ever..

The ones I presently recall in alpha order...

Linda Blair
Daisy Fuentes
Carlos Gutierrez (was Secretary of Commerce at the time)
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Florence Henderson
Larry Johnson
Janet Napolitano
Robert Picardo
Thomas F. Wilson
have not heard of one???????

No 🙂

I had originally had the intro sentence read "in no particular order", but then I thought someone would try to psycho analyze me by who I remembered, or listed, from first to last. So I changed the sentence and cut and pasted the names into alpha order.

I did get the alpha order correct, didn't I?

Yes, I think you got them right. I didn't check.

But I think your compulsion to put them in alpha rather than "wing it" speaks volumes anyway. Not necessarily bad, but it is telling.

Elizabeth Dole-Very gracious lady...drank a Bloody Mary
Wolf Blitzer
Coolio
Pervez Musharraff-former Pakastini president(sat in the exit row)
Vicente Fox-former Mexico president.(His wife is gorgeous)

Was based in DCA briefly, and of course you see a lot of political figures there. Especially on the shuttle.

No matter how I had done it I was going to get a comment.

In 1989, had Mike Tyson, almost thru him off, Larry Bird, Lou Holtz, Lou Rawles good folks.

Mike Tyson is traveling with a companion/body guard, sitting in first. The body guard says to our F/A, "champ wants to know if you want to have dinner with him tonight". F/A replies, " I did not think he was the champ anymore".

I recently flew seated next to Charisma Carpenter who is apparently a fairly well known actress. She seemed to be put out that I had no idea who she was.

Bill Walton was extremely charming to a little old lady who wouldn't stop talking. Of course, Bill gives as good as he gets in terms of non-stop chatter.

Patrick Ewing was obnoxious to a kid who asked for his autograph.

Doug Wilder (the ex Governor of Virgina) who impressed me by being able to greet almost exactly half the plane by name as they boarded. I guess that is part of what made him an effective politician.

I've sat near a few media guys into New York. The only one that stands out in my mind at the moment was Tim Russert, who spent the entire flight explaining cloture and the associated politics to a fascinated 17 year old who never ran out of questions. I was a fan of his from that day forward.

Let's see... Back in 97 we had Dean Cain on our flight LAX-PHX. Superman had just started so he wasn't super popular yet... he was in coach and none too happy about it either...

I also had Hugh Downs on a flight in First. He was amazing... very polite and soft spoken. Was quite chatty and enjoyed actually listening to my answers to his questions. His wife on the other hand was his polar opposite. Evil woman... just evil. Felt sorry for the man. No amount of money makes up for that living hell. 🙂

Also had Richard Simmons on a flight just last year from LAX-LAS. Lovely ops decided to have the LAX-PHX and LAX-LAS switch aircraft on a 28 minute turn. So after scrambling to get the aircraft cleaned and get all of our stuff packed to go we trot over to the next gate only to hear Richard shout out "It's about damn time!" I was all "Did Richard Simmons just yell at us?" lol. And in his trademark shorts no less... and that hair... egads. On the plane it became obvious that he has a very dry sense of humor and is just plain boisterous. Think New York with bad hair and shorts you wish you hadn't looked at.

Then there was Rich Little on a PHX-CLT flight. Sadly, I was the only one to recognize him and I was the youngest in my crew (at 37). I kept trying to explain who he was (even his famous Nixion impersonation didn't jog any memories)... they both kept saying "you mean Little Richard, right?"... the man was WHITE... lol Hello??! 🙂

My most embarrassing celebrity moment was back in April of 09. I was standing at Row 10 on a 320 in the exit trying my best to keep my gigantor-self out of the flow of traffic while still being assistive (it's an art...) and this older black gentleman passes me and smiles but then just kinda stands there for a second looking at me like I should recognize him. He even gave me a double eyebrow "hello?!? you should know me!!" helper (sorry dude I STILL don't know who the heck you are...) eventually he gave up and sat down (me just smiling at him with this "please stop staring at me" look on my face). During service it was the same... I'd ask him if he wanted a drink, he'd stare at me with eyebrows raised with a 'Hey it's me' look and I'd just smile and nod slowly... during deplaning he tried ONE LAST TIME... and finally just gave up and left... he dropped his boarding pass on the floor as he passed by (subtle...) after traffic cleared out I was crossing seatbelts and found the boarding pass... it was Reggie Jackson... LOL! I realize I'm black myself... but I'm sorry I don't do sports! 🙂 Sorry Reggie wherever you are! 🙂

I met Dr. John in the CLT airport after seeing his name (Mac Rebennack), on a bag I was loading. Couldn't pass up the chance to get his autograph on a US Air napkin. He signed Dr. John The Night Tripper and made some drawings. What's Dat I asked. Da stars Da moon. The autograph hangs in my house.

Got Muhammed Ali's autograph in CLT too. That one is in the attic somewhere.

If Dr. Pepper wants a real doctor to trust in their commercials dey need to drop Dr. Love and Dr. Dre and get da real Dr.

No 🙂

Doesn't matter. You got psycho analyized by the big psycho analyzer himself!!

My list:

CCH Pounder
Lil Kim
Magic Johnson - we had a ground stop in PHL due to POTUS landing. He signed autographs for the WHOLE plane! I asked if he wanted me to have the people leave him alone. He smiled and said he was fine with it. So I asked for one
Patti LaBelle
Boyz2men
Wayne Gretsky - the FC f/a was all over him, gave him a bottle of bubbly.
Leann Rimes
Gavin Rossdale - Bush frontman
Richard Simmons - who hasn't? Very very nice. He buys 2 FC seats to not be bothered. Gave one up for the Captains mom who was along for the ride PHL-LAX
Joan Lunden -nasty. Sat sideways so pax would see her then got huffy when the finger pointing started. Odd.
Mandy Moore, her mom, and her entourage. All very very nice.
Maya Angelou
Susan Sarandon
M. Night Shyamalon - right after he won for best movie the Sixth Sense. He had a big box with him and I asked if that was the Peoples Choice Award inside. He said yes and got it out and let me hold it. It is heavy!! He said after he won, Haley Joel Osmont wanted to hold the award for the rest of the ceremony. He was worried that he might drop it!
Denzel Washington - nasty-and in coach. That was when agents got a commission for hawking FC. Not sure if he was supposed to be up there or just flies coach.
Jeff Gordon. Very nice.
Kate Gosselin
Brooke Burke
John Snow - ex Sec of Treasury. Look at your money, chances are his autograph is one one of your bills
Chris O'Donnell
Kathy Griffin - didn't say one word. But I got a picture with her!
NC Panthers charter.

I'm sure I missed some.

Let's see, I forgot Carrot Top (from MCO to LAS and he and a magician next to him were entertaining FC most of the way) and Shirley McClaine (in a middle seat in coach happily knitting away with no one knowing who she was and giving me the "don't use my name" look).
