Celebrity Sightings on US Airways

I like this thread! These are the celebrities that I have had the pleasure of serving from memory:

Most recent - Muhammad Ali on a flight from Phoenix to Honolulu

Ben Stein
Cindy Williams (Shirley of "Laverne and Shirley")
The entire "B-52s" musician group
Pink
Mia Hamm
Tracy Austin
Lou Rawls (Rest his soul. I had Mr. Rawls on at least 8 different flights. So many that he actually knew me by name by the fourth or fifth flight)!
Senator John McCain
Then-Governor Janet Napolitano
David Copperfield
Pamela Sue Anderson
Brooke Shields
David Faustino (Bud Bundy from "Married with Children")
Jason Hervey (Wayne from "The Wonder Years")
Charlton Heston
Linda Ronstadt
Jeff Gordon
Neil Patrick Harris
Adam Corrola and Jimmy Kimmel when they were co-hosts of "The Man Show"
and,
before he achieved "celebrity" status, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger

I haven't heard of a lot of these celebrities, and of those I have, I probably would not recognize 50% of them. And a few of those mentioned on the list I only know because I've had to work with them. 😉 What really gets me is the sense of entitlement which some of them have, thinking that the entire world should recognize them, and kiss their you-know-what's.

I have a friend who was a regular on a popular '80s nighttime soap for 4 seasons, and guest starred on many popular TV series in the 80's and 90's. She used to get recognized (and upgraded) all the time when she flew, although since I had never watched the show, I had never heard of her. She stopped acting about 10 years ago, and now she almost never gets recognized, and never gets upgraded. In fact, I was once with her at LAX, and not one person recognized her. She's gotten over her ego, but I don't think a lot of the celebrities and pseudo-celebrities mentioned in this thread have come back down to earth after their 15 minutes.

I had asked her once if she ever flew US, and she said "I flew them all."

The only one of the ones that I listed that had the prima donna thing going was Daisy Fuentes. She seemed to be in a bad mood and seemed to be unhappy even in FC. Nothing I tried to do, including leaving her alone, made her happy. Maybe she was used to the privacy of private jets or maybe she was just unhappy. Oh well.

Florence Henderson was on a LAX-LAS flight for a tradeshow appearance and was holding court during boarding in the coach section. There were a lot of other folks that she knew that happened to be on the flight and they were saying hi to each other. A female college student in the back asked if that was "Mrs. Brady" and I said yes, that was her. It was a fun flight, especially since LAS-LAX weekend flights can be challenging.

Carrot Top was a hoot.

Linda Blair (The Exorcist) was into being quiet, but she did engage in some conversation.

Ben Stein, wearing his sneakers, discussed politics.

Robert Picardo (The holographic doctor on Voyager) was in the back and was trying hard not to be noticed.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, traveling from NYC (where she was appearing on Broadway) to LAX for the 2005 Oscars, had some folks recognize her and they tried to come up front to get autographs. I had to discourage that because it could have bothered other FC passengers, but she was fine with the autograph folks and hung around in the jetway afterwards and gave folks autographs or photos. She read script proposals during the flight.

Carlos Gutierrez (Sec'y of Commerce, was catching a red eye connection from ABQ-LAS-DCA. He and his security folks were booked into coach and since I had an empty FC cabin I had them all move up front. It made relaxing easier and was better for the security folks. He personally thanked us all for that.

Thomas F. Wilson ("Biff" in Back to the Future) was immediately recognizable. He was obviously older, but the face recognition was immediate. He was acting in smaller productions of plays.

John and Cindy McCain - several times PHX - DCA - never said one word to each other during the entire flight(s)
Keith Urban - HOT and very nice!! The lady sitting next to him in first didn't recognize him....
Moody Blues band (when their private plane broke down)
Billy Joel - nice guy
Morgan Fairchild
Dylan McDermott
Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen when they were married - got into a huge fight onboard
George Hamilton
Jerry Lewis
Robert DeNiro - super nice guy and signed a ton of autographs

Flying commercial is such a drag!

Seriously.....this thread is far more entertaining than the equivalent thread on Flyertalk.

I guess I should also add that my parents saw the Queen of Spain in the Envoy Lounge at PHL on November 5 or 6 of last year. My mother recognized her! (I never would have.)

While I haven't had him on one of my flights, I guess Leslie Nielson lives in Phoenix and flies on us all the time. I hear he ALWAYS pokes his head into the cockpit to say, "I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you". Evidently he's really cool.

Decided to join the fun 🙂
Off the top of my head and dusting off of the memory banks...

Ricki Lee Jones (she & Tom were traveling together w a y back when and were both odd birds. Ms Jones was carrying a HUGE teddy bear with her to Paris)
Tom Waits
O.J. Simpson (in the 80’s-was gracious to fans)
Strom Thurmond (seated in the emergency exit row in his 90’s, yes, I reseated him quietly)
The Temptations (late 1990’s on Easter and they were the only passengers)
The Wailers (Bob Marley’s band going to Aruba-fun and laid back guys)
John Kerry (I'll leave it at that)
Kristi Yamaguchi
Seth Scofield (in coach-wouldn't it be nice if they all did?)
Dustin Pedroia (on a long haul and a huge hassle trying to keep people out of first)
Franco Harris (jammed into a window seat on full flight-very nice guy)
Fritz Hollings (former SC Senator)
Bob Novak (the late journalist, of the Valerie Plame, CIA fame)
Jack Valenti (lifetime politico and creator the movie ratings system. Very Very tiny man)
Brian Lamb (C-Span) last row of coach and nice to chat with.
Brian White (Tavon on The Shield. Handsome and friendly)
Cokie Roberts
Andrea Mitchell (tiny woman)
Caroline Kennedy (she and Ed left a mess behind)
Ed Schlossberg
Joe Perry (Aerosmith)
Jesse Jackson (hobnobbing in DCA)
Judy Woodruff (extremely petite)
Colonel Sanders (in his full white suit get-up saw as a kid at O’Hare, got his autograph)
Beyonce’s parents
One of the original Tuskeegee Airmen (can’t remember his name-very elderly and frail but in his decorated leather bomber jacket)

Keep 'em coming!

You are exactly right. He does live in PHX and always says that to the pilots. They get such a kick out of it. He did a moniker of Airplane for us when he was seated in 1B. The 1st and I got a good laugh. He is really funny and very down to earth.

I never had him on a flight, but I have heard the stories.
