Actually, E, you would be wrong... as much as you like to think you understand a lot more than you do.
BTW, Brazil is real big on protecting children's rights so I would not be whipping anything out anyplace other than where it is very obvious that you are doing only what you are supposed to be doing with those assets.
You might also be careful about which fingers you raise and where - and even the order in which you present them to people. Your post above reminds of the AA pilot who chose to present his 3rd finger to Brazilian immigration officers; needless to say the flight was cancelled and he got to enjoy local cuisine with other Brazilians in the GRU jail.
But....
thank you for rescuing this conversation from the toilet, Robbed.
You can see that E and I like to fight like cats and dogs but we also enjoy having a good laugh together... or at least I laugh.
Actually, US has already said they will apply for both PHL and CLT to GRU service (since we have discussed Latin America in this thread that has gone all over) and it is a given, as I have noted, that the new AA will develop PHL to Latin America as well as PHL to Asia. Of course the benefit of PHL is it has very few int'l carriers relative to EWR or JFK so there is a lot of opportunity for growth.
AA of course will develop their network via their partners... but other than PHL-NRT, it is hard to see another route to Japan on AA/US metal making a whole lot of sense... AA could have done that already.
As for HKG and CX (Cathay), there have been multiple opportunities to develop closer relationships... but why would CX want to have a joint venture with a partner that may or may not add anything behind what CX already has..... why would CX want another carrier starting service in LAX-HKG since CX has the market to itself? ORD-HKG? sure AA could start it but they will be up against UA which has been AA's nemesis in every other ORD-E. Asia route. DFW-HKG? maybe..if you want to add a 16+ hour flight on a 777-300..... the economics of Ultra-long haul flying aren't great.....
so, of course, AA will expand its presence in Asia,,, but I'm not sure it will be appreciably any different than what exists now - and certainly AA's relative strength in Asia is not likely to change.
