As a parent who just lost a precious child, Imagine you wake up this morning to THIS news story.

NOW,

IMAGINE you're a parent who just lost a precious CHILD, and you live in ...NEWTOWN CONNECTICUT !
I don't see what the difference is between using a "ghost gun" and using a stolen gun.  Either way it would be difficult if not impossible to trace it to the shooter.

The best gun control is keeping everyone on a level playing field.

Damn, and here I was hoping there was someone announcing a new ammunition manufacturing plant coming on line. It's been next to impossible to get 22LR since Obama's re-election...

Gun control advocates are their own worst enemy.

By making a big deal out of something that's been legal since 1791, they're just creating demand for the very items they want to eliminate.

I think they are your worst enemy. Prices and availability have gone up and down respectively. Nothing like good paranoia to drive up prices.

Then maybe someone can give me an answer to this question. (and) it's a legit/serious question.

WHY, in these countries where gun control is strict, are the inhabitants rarely getting killed ?

1. New Zealand
2. Iceland
3. Belgium
4. the Netherlands
5. Austrailia
6. Norway
7. Denmark
8. Finland
9. Sweden
10. Canada

Actually you might recall when Homeland Security purchased billions of dollars in ammo. You're starting to see the fruit of that move. I've known for years that the government was planning to stop the ammo. If you can't get rid of the guns, well you go after their most important component.

So, yes, this is a Merry Christmas, NRA.

Because with the exception of Canada, Australia & New Zeal and They prefer being over run by foreign powers. Like Germany and for the Irish the Brits. Any questions.? Even the Japanese general knew he couldn't invade the US because in his words "there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass"

I've been to over half of the list and have family roots in three of them...

Lots of possible reasons. The lack of drug trafficking is probably a factor. I'd guess that more than half the violent crime in the US is related to drug crimes (be it trafficking or theft to support habits).

Many of them are also culturally homogenous and sparsely populated. A few large cities, but everyone else just keeps to themselves. When you're related to half the country, you're less likely to engage in violent crime. When you don't have people living on top of each other in crowded cities, you're less likely to engage in violent crime.

They're also mostly pacifists who have symbolic military forces. They know someone else will come to their defense and hopefully liberate them when they get invaded. Many of them are somewhat isolated from their neighbors (the exceptions being Canada, Belgium and Holland).

I do not think it is just a matter of gun restrictions.  I think it has a lot to do with the culture.  We seem to have a very violent culture in the US.  Why I am not sure.  But violence seems to be an acceptable form of conflict resolution.  Add to that easy if not unrestricted access to weapons and you have a receipe for diaster.

That makes absolutely no sense and has nothing to do with waht is being discussed.

The ammo shortage might be due to the paranoid folks rushing out to their gun stores since "Obama is going to ban guns".  He's been in office 6 years, and they are still legal

Thanks for the history lesson to.  I had no idea that automatic or non automatic automatic weapons have been legal since 1791.  You want a gun for personal safety?  Great, buy a Rugar or Smith and Wesson...or maybe a Winchester rifle or shotgun.  But are you really THAT much safer with an automatic weapon?  Hell...odds are good a "good guy with a non automatic automatic weapon" could end up killing a few innocent bystanders as well as the bad guy by spraying the area with non automatic automatic weapons fire.

So now the right to Liberty and to self defense is a disaster? An individual has only those rights which they can defend. What do you suggest? We arm ourselves with tree branches?

Guns in the hands of the individual eventually keep government at a respectful distance.
