We're 'Big Threat' To Delta - Continental CEO
------------------------------------------------------
March 9, 2010
Continental Airlines said its strength in Latin America, Asia and New York poses a "big threat" to its larger rival and former alliance partner Delta Air Lines.

Smisek should take a page out of Bethune's book if he wants to be successful. CO was always a reluctant partner in Skyteam and I think it was them that didn't want to be there. If I'm not mistaken, it was CO that started the NYC wars while in Skyteam.

BTW, AA was whipping out its checkbook as well as DL in the JAL deal.

CO is acting pretty smug, lately, but their partner, UA, can't decide if they want to go to bed with CO or US.

For being "the Most Wonderful CO" as I have heard it called, they've certainly laid some PR bombs lately, mostly since Smisek took over.

Well, after today's announcement, I do not think Delta should feel threatened by a Continental saddled with United.

Just wondering if DL, in order to maintain a competitive product, will re-introduce International FC on long-haul Int'l flights.
The reason I say this is because prior to these mergers, three majors had only two classes of service (Biz and Economy)...NW, CO, and DL. Now, with the merger of CO and UAL, if UAL keeps Int'l FC and we know AA has Int'l FC, that leaves DL out their on their own with just a two-class Int'l product.
Thoughts?....

Maybe, it might be smart to do that since they will have a much fiercer competitor than before today.

I would say: not likely. NW eliminated international F class to align their product with KL. KL and AF offer only business and economy classes. Since DL is in a joint venture with KL/AF, they would likely want to keep their product aligned for a seamless travel experience.
