Fox News and CNN are reporting that the pilot of Continental Flt 61 has died in flight. The 1st Office is flying he aircraft, but there is a back up crew on the aircraft as well. The aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Newark at 11:45.

There's also the relief FO (so two on-duty FOs) plus the off-duty crew.

My condolences.

Hopefully continental was able to reach the family before they heard it through the media outlets.

It sounds like the entire crew handled the situation with the utmost professionalism.
My condolences to his family and friends....Brussels isn't a bad place to have a last layover.

Passengers interviewed on NBC national news had nothing but praise for the professionalism of the crew.

Jim, I thought for sure you were a Fox News viewer. Oh wait, it was the other guy who retired.
(numerous candidates),

my thoughts and prayers go out to the captain and his entire family May He Rest In Peace. Outstanding Job and Performance by the 2 copilots for landing it under extraordinary circumstances and the crew for job well done as well as for the belgium doctor for trying to save the life.

I hope you don’t mind… but today I was sent this video of the IAH Honor Guard for Captain Lenell – 6/20/2009. I just had to say….. I feel this video was done with such dignity and respect not only for Capt. Lenell….but also for his Family. Being a retired Flight attendant and the wife of a commercial pilot I wanted to send my Condolences…..and say God Bless His Soul.
