In my short aviation career I had the pleasure to meet this jolly fine fellow, he always had a smile on his face and always willing give any information to a young aspiring pilot such as myself. My deepest sympathies go out to the family in this difficult time. Colin will be dearly missed.
Having had the privilege of being one of Colins students 3 years ago I am deeply saddened and send my condolences to his family. Colin was a straight shooter and always full of good advice. I only hope to become a tenth of the pilot that he was.
Sharkster....playing catch up now...settling into my new digs in YQM.
Sad news indeed man. Fond memories of Sully on my visits to YYB over the past few years. LadyRanger and I were there just last fall and cooked some good ol'' down east food for Sully and Guylain, Jeff and Shana. I''ve tried to reach Jeff but as expected no luck. I''m sure he''s got his hands full. Please tell him to call me if he needs a hand at the shop. I left my number on his voice mail.
Colin suffered a massive heart attack after one of his runs while on vacation. There was a service in North Bay last week. ALOT of people there as he had many friends and past students that attended. Rick made it but unfortunately both Wayne and Al were overseas and couldnt make the arrangments in time. At the conclusion there was a multi helicopter fly-by with the 204 bringing up the end. Not a dry eye in the house. Very fitting.
I’ve been travelling in the US for the past few weeks and only learned this past weekend that Sully passed away. I had the privilege of spending some time with Sully this past winter up at the Bush Camp near North Bay for what was to be a story in Vertical.
It was great to spend the time I did with Sully as he told me stories of how things used to be in the past when it came to flight training (up hill both ways in two feet of snow!) and what he thought of the industry. It was also interesting to hear about the number of people that he has trained that have gone on to start up their own operations. It was a history lesson for me.
Sully was a true gentleman, and an icon in this industry that I hope people will not forget. He will be sorely missed by all that ever knew him.
I have uploaded a picture for everyone that knew Sully with his typical smile (he hated having his picture taken!).
