Funjet enters Columbus market
Will offer charter flights to Cancun
Rich Rovito
Funjet Vacations will offer the first regularly scheduled international passenger flights out of Columbus, Ohio's Rickenbacker International Airport beginning in February.

Funjet, Milwaukee, a division of Fox Point-based Mark Travel Corp., will launch charter vacation service out of Rickenbacker's new passenger terminal.

Rickenbacker is primarily a cargo airport, but opened a passenger terminal this year. Southeast Airlines Inc. was the first to start airline service at the terminal, offering flights to Las Vegas, Sanford-Orlando and St. Petersburg, Fla., and Allentown, Pa.

A group of Columbus travel agents approached Mark Travel management about the city's dearth of charter travel to Mexico, said Funjet spokeswoman Tamara Kriese.

Funjet is offering seven-night vacation packages departing from Columbus to Cancun, Mexico, from Feb. 8 through Aug. 8, 2004, which is the peak travel season to Mexico. Airline service will be provided by Casino Express Airlines, which will operate a 122-seat charter jet.

This is the 3rd charter air service to start operations from LCK (Columbus's 2nd Airport). The others are Southeast Airlines and Hooters Air.
