Does anyone know if the new "USAirways" will continue to operate under SABRE or will we cross over to AWA?
Also, does anyone know which one is more user friendly (up to date)?

For those of us in Customer Service, yours is the million dollar question.

Regardless of the system they choose, Parker has made it clear that he wants to bring the CRS "in house". For that reason alone, IMO, I have a feeling it will not be SABRE. ...But now with Al C as VP Cust Svc, I have a feeling that he may try to build a case for Parker to go with Sabre.

FWIW, I've heard SHARES is pretty easy to pick up. SABRE on the other hand... 😛h34r: (...even though I've grown to be a wiz 😉 )

It will be SHARES with a QIK interface. That info is already posted on this message board.

I've watched you guys poke around with SABRE. It seems to be a real hassle, especially at times during weird situations (trying to reroute me to Richmond instead of Norfolk during an ice storm last year.) That thing looks like it was programmed in the 70s...most industries would have thrown that thing out decades ago.

That's because USAirways was too cheap to buy the complete version of Sabre. USAirways bought the bargain basement version. Surprised??!!??

Very true; the check-in and boarding control functions are top notch, the ticketing side has been greatly improved - in large part due to the TREX (ticketing re-issue/exchange package - aka TIPS at US) being brought over from the PACER system. While US did choose to give its Res offices an enhanced SABRE interface, the ATOs are still using native SABRE. Not that there is anything wrong with that. If you know what you are doing.

Many stations are still using the old "dumb" CRTs from PACER that were never intended to work with SABRE. Several of the non-alpha symbols used in SABRE simply don't exist on these early '80s relics and users have to make do with substitute keys. The screens often clear themselves annoyingly if the user makes an error.

The FASTAIR SABRE interface is used by several airlines and replaces most "string entries" with fill-in windows. FASTAIR also works with Apollo and is used by United.

As was pointed out in another posting on this topic, experience users of native SABRE and Apollo have said they're faster and FASTAIR. They do, however, take substantially longer to learn.

Our station, (anonymous), the PC'S ARE SO OUTDATED!

Surprized??

Old Pc'S = New Software= Not Compatable!

WTF????

All the $$for them and we get the #### to use..

PCs are so cheap now, even with 15" LCDs or 17" and a corporate contract, upgrading them should be no problem with the 1.5 billion.

I wouldn't be so quick to pull the plug on SABRE... Isn't the New US going to continue to be a STAR partner??? Didn't US pay big bucks for upgrades to SABRE to make it STAR alliance compatible??? How much money will need to be dumped into SHARES to make it pass the STAR audit?? As tight as money is right now, if it costs less to keep SABRE rather than upgrading SHARES??? There's your answer...

I imagine the amount these companies pay for SABRE they could write thier own and own it. No yearly licence fees.
