Representative Issa Bars Witness from Testifying at Congressional Hearing
At a hearing Thursday convened by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), five male witnesses, all religious leaders, explained why the regulation still assaults their religious beliefs.

Religions, for the most part are sexist. The RC does not allow womem in any positions of power in the church. Muslims do not allow women any positions of power in Islam. Orthodox jews do not allow women in an positions of power in the temple. Yet these chauvinists have the audacity to say that contraception use by 98% of women at some point in their life violates their religion? How about you allow women in positions of power in the religions and see how quickly those positions change.

Someone should let these religions know that women are in fact equal to men. They can hold jobs, by property, control money. Heck, I even hear a rumor that some companies are even run by women.

I see this whole debate as nothing more than a power play by the religious right to maintain control over womens sexuality. Why women continue to vote against their own self interest is beyond me. I believe this will come back to hut the GOP where it hurts. Most GOP women use contraceptives. They are not cheap. Why are they letting men even have a say in this is insane

Pair this with the antiquated misogynistic statements of Santorum and their should be riots in the street with women just saying no. Hopefully women will wake up.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go burn some bibles and deface some churches.

Most Atheists are bigots! what's your point?

taking religion and gender out for a second. Do you honestly think the Government has the right to dictate to any private company or institution any aspect of their policies so long as they don't initiate violence?

Libertarian - The radical notion that other people are not your property.

It is an issue crafted by the dems to make the GOP look like the villain. Pure and simple.

Its how to win an election by lying to the masses who are uninformed.

Why was Stephanopolous asking contraceptive questions 2 months ago at the debates?

Your article goes directly to the point of what I am saying.....

It is a religious doctrine issue, not about GOP denying womens contraceptive rights and that's what the Dems want the arguement to be about.

Bad Republicans eliminating contraception and that's not what the issue is about.

From your original article:

Democrats asked Issa to invite some female witnesses, he said the debate was about religious freedom, not "reproductive rights and contraception." Before storming out, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) demanded, "Where are the women?" Was Maloney right to complain?

The issue is contraception and women. Can you please explain how you are going to take religion and gender out of the conversation? This issue has to do with womens access to health related services. So in this instance I do believe that governments roll is to guarantee access to health related services.

The religious organizations who are complaining the loudest are the ones who do not have any women in power. Does that not offend you?

How is it that atheists are the bigots but most religions do not allow women in the hierarchy, use god to justify the expansion of empires and the eradication of the heathens that stand in the way, bur witches, stifle education.... etc but we athiest are the bigots? Oky Dokie.

1. Rights are conferred upon Individuals, not groups. We have the right to our Liberty There is no right to Health care.
2. the appropriate role of government is to protect the rights of individuals, NOT Groups.
3, the role of government is to protect the rights of its citizens. You have a right to your Liberty and your Property
4. Governments do NOT have the right to infringe upon you choices. Among these would be access to medical care which at the discretion of the provider may or may not sell contraceptives. Insurances carriers and the free market should decide whether it's a good business decision to cover contraceptives.

Honestly? not in the least! They are free to operate as they choose. Just as I am free to be involved with that group for reasons known only to me.

Because that's my opinion based upon some of your more ignorant comments.

Have you been to a church lately? There are usually more women sitting in the pews than men. What does that say? Maybe that these women are OK with how things are going in their "religion".

No, the issue is a religion that does not support contraception being forced to provide/pay for it by the government.

Sounds like a separation of church and state issue too....government dictating what a religion can or can not do.

There is no access issue for contraceptive devices. Obama wants to make it a freebie issue.

2012 Presidential campaign based on free rubbers.....my God what have we come to?

I do not know. What does it say when 98% of women use contraceptives at some point during their lives in direct oposition to their religion that is run by males who are making decisions on their sexually?

The Church has a position. The body of the Church chooses to ignore that, that's the end of it.

So what is the consequence of all these Church members defying the position the Vatican has?

They're saying they should not be forced into paying for or providing services/products against established doctrine. Period.

You're schilling for the DNC.

If a Women is in a forest and hurts herself, the question is what was the forest doing in the Kitchen?

I see you have made through the 4th Gin & Tonic now. I predict you will be in rare form tonight. 😉

Sorry to disappoint Tech but I JUST poured the first one after the above post. I'm sorry but I just love being politically incorrect. Especially around folks who identify as Liberal/Progressive.

For example I wear my "I didn't Claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables" (I got from Rudy's BBQ in Austin, TX) T-Shirt when I know there will be lots of Vegans and Vegetarians attending the event.

I have a Roman Coloseum shirt for Christian events. Somehow they do not see the humor in that I do.

That's kind of to bad for them. Shows maybe they aren't all that versed in their own history in which case you likely do them a service. Remember wearing a cross in those times would be equivalent to wearing a gold Electric Chair today.
