Wow!...Are you serious? Just imagine taking away all that nasty profit incentive for "little things", like research and development of vaccines, surgical techniques and instruments, prescribed medications for serious illnesses, new chemo therapy for cancer treatments...not to mention such nice little life saving devices as MRI scanners, etc. Do you even fantasize that such would ("naturally" or due to brilliant government meddling), have ever developed/further develop, in a financial vacuum?

I was referring to hospitals not technology. I was not clear on that. Hospitals are more inclined to conduct test and prescribe drugs that may not be needed.or in the best interest of the patient sine they are motivated by profit. I have no problem with salaries for employees. And for those who say hospitals will go away with out profithow do you explain all the non-profitorganizations? My wife works for one of the largestnon profit hospice facilities in TX and it is a phenomenal facility. It dies work and it works well.

A greater part of the HC problem and what drives costs is over testing to CYA from malpractice.
I don't think OC adresses that aspect.

Sorry Tree but, once ObamaCare is thrust upon us , non-profits will be a thing of the past. No matter how phenominal the place is , if someone has ObamaCare and someone else is footin' the tab, why would they waste their time going to a non-profit facility? I must confess that makes very little sense to me. Developing technology = Ok for profitable purposes?...but hospitals themselves? = No? They must all be either charity based or payed for taxpayers, and that would improve things how? Seriously; How does that make much sense?

Individual doctors/surgeons/etc = No profit motive? That should empty out a lot of med schools in a hurry.

"I have no problem with salaries for employees." Who pays for those? How does one get the best possible people for those positions?

If this crap is thrust on all of us; my few friends of the physician persuasion are already discussing doing exactly that, and those guys could easily do another decade or more of fine medical practice otherwise.
