Continental Airlines profit: $198 million

Continental Airlines doubled its profit in the spring quarter as passenger revenue rose 23 percent to more than $3 billion.
"Our plan is working," said CEO Larry Kellner. "Everyone wins."

Houston-based Continental (NYSE: CAL - News), which flies to Hawaii from Guam, Los Angeles, Houston and Newark, said its operating income was $244 million, more than double year-before levels despite fuel price increases above $200 million and a $60 million accrual for employee profit sharing.

Revenue: $3.51 billion. Year before: $2.74 billion. Net income: $198 million. Year before: $100 million. Per share: $1.84. Year before: $1.26. Excluding special charges, Continental recorded net income of $208 million, or $1.93 earnings per share.
