The last paragragh says, "The Christoffersens are asking school administrators at Johnson Junior High School to crack down on cellphone use during school. "

As you can plainly see , reading the last parpgraph, Dad is a prime example of your typical Liberal-Democrat, expecting the govenment to "POLICE" his daughters cellphone usage !

I've got a better solution. Police your own problems and take responsibility for you and your familys actions...................Liberal-Democrat Dad !

In the house is one thing, but what's he supposed to do while she's out of the home? Sit in class with her? You were a kid once. Did you not violate "house rules" while you were away?

Furthermore, what does this have to do with political leaning? How do you know he's liberal?

If I was a taxpayer in that school district, I'd be calling for enforcement of the cellphone policy; I'm paying for kids to learn, not send texts all day.

You know this guy?

Cheyenne, Wyoming...a real liberal bastion in Dick Cheney's home town...

Geez

How in the world could you turn this into political commentary? I read the article and nowhere did it mention the mans politics. You forgot to mention that the dad took a hammer to the girls phone. Doesn't sound like something a stereotypical "Liberal-Democrat" would do. Sounds like something my dad would have done.

yep.

this is how my dad was/is back in the day... want a car, private phone line in my room(now-a-days the ..cell phone), the trendy clothes...get a part time job and pay for it..(looking back, I appreciate it so much more, instead of having 'things' just given..)

you know those cell phones in school, they are probably calling each other in the same building, or side by side in the class room...

dont want a huge cell phone bill? dont get the cell phone.. (how did we manage without them in the first place? LOL)

Too bad they weren't AT&T customers. They offer a service that allows you to selectively turn on/off services by time of day, day of week.

I don't have a problem with teenagers having cell phones. You can't find *working* pay phones anymore at the schools, and frankly, it give us a chance to teach them some responsibility.

I've got two teens with phones. They each have their monthly budget of minutes and text messages (we have unlimited text as part of our plan, but hey, you still need to exercise some form of control). They can trade minutes and texts as currency. They can also bank rollover minutes.

If they go over budget, they lose the phone until the next billing cycle starts. Only had to follow thru once on that, and they've never done it again since...

(how did we manage without them in the first place? LOL)

Or how did we manage to survive until adaulthood. 😉 Parents did things back in the day that would probably get you in trouble.

Cars with no airbags, lap belts in back and that's if you used them. The list goes on.

Kids do NOT need cell phones in schools. For parents that say "what if there's an emergency"? You do what parents did when I was in school: you call the office, and the office goes to the classroom to get your kid.

People that think they NEED to use their cell phones in the car, on the airplane, etc. are idiots.

no they dont, what they do need..is learning to be patient..(patience..is a good thing)

exactly.

the only phone that needs to be in school.. is the one in the office.

people need to keep both hands on the wheel at 10 and 2.. 😀

Your Stereotypical "Liberal-Democrat" is looking for the Government to babysit them!

This Dad wants the school, i.e. government to babysit his daughter's cell phone usage at school !

When what should happen is the daughter gets a phone, when she responsible enough to use one !

We have parents here who do not teach their children good manners and responsibility at an early age. The parents are too permissive and convince themselves that their kids need cellphones so they can be reached. I agree with the above poster who stated that she/he had to go to the school office when they needed to call home. Most kids are basically good kids but are lacking in responsibility. Parents try to set up boundaries and rules, but most kids will stretch those boundaries beyond the limits. The parents are too soft with the kids when punishing them for abusing the rules and they usually give in to the pressure placed on them by the kids. I would make sure the kid understood that with the first violation, the cellphone would be taken away for 6 months. A second infraction and the cellphone is gone for good until the kid has a job and can pay for their own phone and bill. If you don't teach your kids respect for you and your rules, they will run all over you. Most kids are smart and you need to be one step ahead of them at all times. If not, you lose.

probably texting messages to each other in class all day long..(the new technological way to pass notes and creating a ridiculous bill.. on top of the cellphone chatting) who is ultimately responsible enabling this to happen at school?

the parents..

Did the school you went to have rules on what you could and could not bring to it? Using your logic I guess it was all up to your parents to determine what you should and should not bring to school.

It appears to me that this guy has solved the problem of his daughter texting while in school. He took a hammer to her cell phone and grounded her till the end of the school year. Since his problem is solved it should be obvious that he's not asking the school to do it for him like you are saying.

However he does not have control over other people and their kids. My guess is he wants the school to take action so his daughter is not distracted by other kids messing with their cell phones.

Naaah, just leave it to Pelosi or Reid to target customers using more than 1000 minutes or texts a month, and sin-tax them to provide cell phones for those who can't afford them.... 😉
