What's new

DAL/NWA was a fib

It's beginning to look like Gerry Grinstein's Age & Treachery is overcoming Doug Parker's Youth & Skill.

Actually it is more like he is going senile. If anything he should have waited after the merger was turned down to announce that NW was nothing.

He just threw away an ace. 😱

So how long ago did the DL-NW talks hit the news? A week to 10 days ago? He knew all along there were no talks going on but decided to let the rumors fly for a while. I wonder who started this little lie?

Many people believe Delta has been purposely leaking false information to the press to create more confusion for the creditors.

I believe Delta management is desperate to kill the merger proposal, not for the good of employees, but to line their pockets with millions of dollars in bankruptcy exit stock-based competition.

After all, Delta left out the management equity-based compensation in their Disclosure Statement/POR. How could this be? Do they not know what they want to give them self or do they not want others to know how much money they will obtain?

I'm not saying management does not deserve equitable compensation, but at least they could disclose it and not hide their intentions.

I believe corporate greed (again) at the expense of employee's along with ego have as much to do with Delta's resistance than anything else.

In my opinion, if I were Doug Parker I would drop the Delta deal and move on to "Plan B" or should I say "Plan N" and then watch Delta end up without a dance partner when UA/CO and US/NW merge.

Actually, I posted this information on January 14th in the Delta forum. If you read the thread "Who's telling the truth?" I stated that Whitehurst said we were not talking to anyone about a merger, and didn't know where the NW news came from. Management has stated it several times since then-so I'm not sure why this is "news" to anyone on here.

That comination of US/NW and UA/CO sounds GOOD to me and the fleets and route systems will MESH quite nicely and The Star Alliance will Reign "Happily Ever After"......like I've been saying "Keep Delta THEIR Delta"!

oops! "combination". I got so excited with another merger I started losing my head.....kindda like the A320s Lost their closets! Anyone know whether NWA is "closet friendly" or have they REALLLLLLLY cut costs to the point of making Doug look like a "Spend thrift" 😛

It makes you wonder how honest he is being with his own people....probably not too much..

while I agree with you that Delta should disclose their plans for management compensation, as long as they prevent a merger with USAirways, I for one don't care how well they line their pockets.

I have to agree that NW/US makes better sense, but from a personal standpoint, I would prefer to join up with CO if only because I think that merger would be the least contentious (if only marginally so) of any other possibility.

And besides, the conspiracy theorists would point out that the Illuminati have ordained the US/NW merger over a decade ago when NW started scooping up registration numbers that end in US! It wouldn't surprise me if NW has more "US" numbered airplanes than US does. (I know someone here will take the bait and come up with the exact numbers...)

Care to back this up with anything? That's a nice little nugget with no support.

Oh, and you'll never out-bid AA for NW's asian presence. Maybe you'll take over some of their domestic hubs down the road, but not the key pieces of their transpac ops.

I'm not sure how leaking information about merger talks with NW, true or not would create "confusion" for DL's creditors.

If I were a creditor to DL, I would rather see the company come out of BK as a stand alone entity. This is a no brainer. The creditors will all get some amount of the newly created equity upon DL's emergence. Let the market set a price for the new equity instead of allowing it to be calculated by corporate raiders with an agenda and suspect valuation models. If LCC still wants to buy DL at a fair price, they can wait till its publically traded, and make a tender offer.

The fact that Doogie doesn't want to wait for that to happen is probably a good indication that he's not giving the current stakeholders their fair share.

If DP's true intention was to acquire DL and I'm not even sure at this point it was, he really messed up.

I think NW might have a little something to say about the future of it's Hubs and Pacific Div. NW is VERY much in control of it's future, and may be the one picking the carcass of those dreaming of it's assets.

You see, If oil stays at or about $55 NW is poised to make more money ($1.2 billion according to Bloomberg)than all except AA($1.3billion) in 07. NW exits BK in 5 months.

NW has the golden hand to decide if Ual gets to marry Cal(NW has FIRST dibs on a Cal combo). It has the ring to prevent the U/Dal marriage. It has the strength and fortitude to keep it's juicy Asian dish out of AA's reach.

It is highly likely that NW will be picking up Hubs from another than vice versa.

Why is it that you can criticize these actions by other airlines' managements, but you have always supported the corrupt, greedy managements at your airline, at the expense of your fellow employees?
