.I do hope when we need to fight off an attacking force that our boys and girls in the navy can make do. Maybe Obama can give them an inspiring speech about how he had to make do in college or something to pep them up to take on a larger force. Is that kind of like our troops in Iraq and afghanastan had to make do with unarmored humvees in 2005 until they could ship a bunch of armor to them? Kind of hard to quickly build a ship after it is desperately needed.

How do you purpose to pay for it?

Did it ever occur to you the military isn't asking for new planes or ships because they've resigned themselves to the fact it's not worth wasting their time as long as there's a pacifist party in control?

Yes, it says for the defense of the US, not for the offensive, policing of the world. The US military is over equipped to defend the US.

What are the F22 and the F35? Granted they do not perform as promised but then what does. Military is not known for picking designs that work..... Sgt York, V-22. B-1, SDI. Perhaps they would stop trying to reinvent the wheel they might have better luck. Then there are the projects that were underbid and over sold like the B1. $2.1 billion a piece (including R&D as well as spare parts). US was supposed to have 132 of them but only got 21. It was designed for a war no longer being fought.

Some how I have a hard time shedding a tear for the military when Congress and the WH are only concerned about getting new toys and do not seem to give a rip about the well being of the soldiers during and after service.

I rather see the money invested in the country with things that we might see a return on like infrastructure mass transit, alternative fuel R&D.

I would not mind seeing it set up like the X Space program was. Perhaps set up a lab/program like JPL or the Manhattan project where the US government does the research in house.
