December FA Attrition

I'm doing fine. Working at Home Depot and hoping for a recall.

Your handle doesn't do much to help me figure out who you are, but I did literally hundreds of trips to MAD and BCN over a thirty year period.

One thing I'm sure of: I bet we had a wonderful dinner, and the company was great!

MK--I was on the 767 in JFK for a relatively short time in 96-97. I think we ate at Alvar's after walking around the Plaza Mayor and sampling the cerveza's.

I recently layed over in MAD and stayed at the Crown Plaza. Nothing at the hotel had changed--there's a Starbucks across the street (angled to the left from the hotel) and Alvar's has been replaced by some upscale restaurant.

The Crocodile is gone. 🙁 And, I got robbed and they stole my Rolex (10th wedding anniv. present...). A good time was had by all. NOT!

Take care.

Well, we were told for Dec. and Jan. the system wide overage was 325-350. I know that the 757's are starting to leave, but I find it hard to believe that AA will just not replace that capacity. There are plenty of S-80's parked. I hope atleast a couple replace the 19. With that, losing 40+ F/A's a month, surely they are going to need to recall sometime this year. Maybe I am just being too hopefull.

Face it -- AA's fleet was just too damn big before the TW integration. I wouldn't look for the capacity being taken out to be replaced anytime soon.

First off, I can't help but believe that the systemwide overage is more than 350. For the month of January I can account for over 150 just between DFW-D and SLT.

Just saw the February bidsheet for SLT. We are down to 94 lines total. When I was recalled in Nov. 2004, we had 120 lines on the bidsheet every month. That is a drop of 5% in the number of lines in one month, and a drop of 22% in the number of lines since Nov. '04. The headcount in SLT is down by 11% just since I was recalled.

The number of lines of flying appears to be dropping faster than the headcount. This would increase the overage. And, we haven't yet seen the effects of the 752s leaving the fleet. We here at SLT do most of that flying.

I've heard nothing from anyone about returning any of the "desert" fleet to service. In fact, what I have heard is that a lot of the "desert" fleet has been cannibalized for spare parts.

I recall prior to the Restructuring Agreement of 2003, Jane Allen having "Town Hall" meetings at bases around the system, and, in some bases, junior flight attendants came in relatively large numbers to "protest" the fact that they were not flying that much on reserve.

I remember thinking, "Watch what you wish for," because a few short months later, we had a massive furlough, and these same people were now on the street.

There IS an overage, and the withdrawal of the 752 will make things worse. The only time there is not an overage is during a holiday, or major weather session, and I think many flight attendants lull themselves into a false sense of security, claiming we are SHORT flight attendants, when, in fact, we are over at all other times.

Prior to 2003, the company was willing to carry a substantial overage on the "books," by offering leaves, etc. Their strategy has changed since then, and we should all be cognizant of that fact.

This issue affects ALL, whether junior or senior. The junior should be concerned about possible furlough, and the senior need to realize that their own opportunities dry up whenever there is a furlough (ie reserve goes up; transfers stop; no leaves, etc.)

I thought FA attrition for December was somewhere around 1,900 or so. For some reason though, about half came back around Jan 5th or so. Go figure.

What I want to say about your above post; I can't on here. 🙄

FWIW...

They finally posted the December attrition numbers to the Flight Service website.

28 Domestic
15 International
43 Total attrition (MK right on the money as usual)

20 years was the average seniority for the total attrition

Of the 43, 17 were retirees. Average seniority for retirees 30.47 years--accurate this time. All 17 allowed their names to be published on the retirement page.

Meant to add that total attrition for 2006 was 618. Down substantially from 2005.
