Delta To Kiev And Copenhagen

Delta has applied with DOT to begin JFK-Kiev service this June, 5x a week. Later this week, they will also announce Atlanta-Copenhagen service, daily, starting in April. Delta will be the only US airline at both airports.

Most, not all, of the majors seem to be increasing their presence in the international flying. There is certainly a diminuitive presence by LCCs there. I can't blame DL one bit. Go for the money, they have to. That Kiev service sounds a little far off, but you will get the revenue from the advanced bookings. Just my thoughts...........

The Ukraine showed that it wants to be a part of the western world w/ its recent election. That will only increase the business that will develop between the US and the Ukraine.

DL has shown that there are many opportunities in western Europe that work from hubs other than NYC yet no other airline has developed them.

I expect there will be news of more routes like these as well as some more Latin and possibly Asia stuff. It's a shame deal had to brought to its knees but I think they are about ready to kick in the afterburners and turn things around in a big way.

Well they sure have billions of $$ more to help alleviate the "insolvency" issue. I would say that they are the smartest airline thus far in the recent rash of BKs. US and UA had "solvency" issues as well and they are still around.

Yes but they hardly "kicked in the afterburners" and took over the world.

In case you aren't familiar with some of WT's postings, my post was more in response to how WT used to take great joy in pointing out that UA was helplessly floundering in BK because that is what insolvent companies in BK do, while taking pains to point out that DL was on of the "solvent" carriers and therefore had great flexibility to carry out its plans.

It is interesting now that DL is suddenly insolvent (d'ohhh!), that little fact -- which according to WT severely hobbled UA's ability to do anything strategic or forward-thinking -- nevertheless doesn't seem to have the same impact on DL or affect DL's abilities to carry out its grand plans. Hmmm.
