On January 4th, DL requested the bankruptcy court's permission to buy up to 60 new regional jets in a bid to expand its reach into new markets. DL told the Judge it has a deal in place with Bombardier to buy 30 76-seat aircraft with an option to buy another 30. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. DL said it hopes to take delivery on the aircraft beginning in Sept. 2007 and will use them to enter new markets and to upgrade service in markets currently being served by smaller aircraft. A hearing on the request is scheduled for Jan. 18.

I may have missed this, but who are the major creditors? Is Bombardier one of them?

So everyone loses their pensions and now the company can buy more planes.
Hey, it worked for US in BK1. We pilots lost our pensions and the company ordered nearly 400 RJ's.....

It must be covered in the Bankruptcy Play Book somewhere.

Now you are getting the "Big picture" of how this all works. Once they strip the employees, they find ways to buy new planes, start painting old ones, and they even seem to find ways to give themselves a bonus here and there. As much as it sucks, that is exactly what the boys at the top seem to do....
