American Will Launch DFW-Buenos Aires Flights Nov. 1
Wednesday August 6, 9:03 am ET

FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Saying it is pleased by the U.S. Department of Transportation''s decision granting it nonstop authority three times a week between Dallas/Fort Worth and Buenos Aires,
Argentina, American Airlines today announced that it will launch the service on Nov. 1 with 212-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft in a two-class cabin.
American said its southbound flights will operate from DFW to Buenos Aires on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The northbound flights from Buenos Aires to DFW will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The 767-300s flying the route have 30 Business Class seats and 182 seats in coach featuring the airline''s More Room seating configuration.

We were gratified by the DOT''s route decision and are eager to begin the new DFW-Buenos Aires service, said Daniel P. Garton, American''s executive vice president-Marketing. The route will benefit many thousands of travelers and cargo shippers in the U.S. and Argentina and will play a strategically important role in further developing commercial and economic ties between the two countries.

David R. Brooks, president of American''s Cargo Division, said the route strengthens DFW''s position as a gateway point for shipments moving to and from Latin America from points in the western U.S., Asia and Mexico. The new flights between DFW and Buenos Aires will allow us to do an even better job of serving this expanding market, Brooks said.

American today serves Buenos Aires from New York-Kennedy with one daily nonstop and from Miami with two daily nonstop flights. From DFW, American currently serves seven destinations in Latin America -- Sao Paulo, Brazil; Santiago, Chile; Caracas, Venezuela; Lima, Peru; Guatemala City, Guatemala; San Jose, Costa Rica; and Belize City, Belize.

In addition, American serves eight points in Mexico from DFW -- Acapulco, Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Guadalajara, Leon, Mexico City, Monterrey and Puerto Vallarta -- and its regional airline affiliate, American Eagle, flies between DFW and Aguascalientes.

local):

When this authorization was initially awarded AA, the route approval had a 2 year expiration date.

AA stated that they did not want to commit the resouces in developing this route because of the imposed limit.

Did AA change their minds or did the DOT grant a revised unlimited award?

Michael

P.S. Just on a side note and idle curiousity, does anyone know if AA received any of the 5th Freedom rights in LHR when they purchased the routes from TWA.
