Last weekend we were at some friends for a party. Above the bar in my friends "home" pub the TV was tuned to the station that was broadcasting the DDA TV show. As we were having drinks and amongst the chat I swear I saw the following.

A SWA employee of some type, that was traveling as a non-rev, was trying to get a passenger to carry some wine she had through TSA security because she had too many items. This employee just approached a man sitting in the terminal and asked him to mule her goods through the checkpoint and she would claim them from him on the other side. If what I saw was correct this lady was clearly violating TSA policy. She was also asking the passenger to directly violate the rules.

Again I did not see the entire show nor did I follow the program so if this is incorrect please enlighten me on this. If she was violating TSA policy what is her current position at SWA? Ground Seucrity Coordinator I suppose?

What time was it at? It was likely on Biography, so we can see which ep was airing and what the scene is.

EDIT: Looking at Biography's schedule, the two episodes from that weekend are "48 - Mardi Gras" and "60 - It Takes All Sorts" Anyone have copies of these eps?

if you don't have the proof why would you put it out there. Flame bait once again!!! Idiotic!!!

If she was taking liquids thru the checkpoint, it was obviously filmed last year or before. Also, where does the TSA count the bags? Certainly not where I work. See people try to bring too much on the plane every day. Wish it were up to TSA to monitor size/number of bags. Would make the gate agents job a lot easier.

Mags is fibbing again. He says he was at a friend's house. OK, maybe he was over at Busdriver's.

God forbid anyone violate a TSA rule, especially the 3 oz of liquid which can't blow up an airplane, whereas 4 oz...

All of the "Airline" episodes (three seasons) were shot between 2002 and 2005. It is not a current program.

In fairness...I've noticed that Bussies posts of late have been far less inflamatory than mags. A LOT less.

SWA SUCKS, Kansas City Blowns. I hate Corn Dogs. Herb's a Drunk! You guys are all liars (ACARS). You'd be losing big money if not for the Hedges!

There Rhino, feel better? 😛 😉

It was not a liquid issue. It was the fact that she was trying to have someone else mule her belongings through the checkpoint. I think it was a package of wine. The sound was low and the conversation loud but she was an old gray-haired lady and first approached the ticket counter where she appeared to be turned away with her request to take the excess items.

What is the little ditty at the airport, "Don't take packages or bags that don't belong to you through the security check point."

This appeared to be a SWA employee asking a passenger to do exactly as we are told not to do. I suppose FedEx'ing the boxes to her home were too costly. Instead she would rather violate TSA statutes on National TV!

I rest my case.

Don't rest too soundly...YOU would have advised the woman to break Fed Ex rules...
Alcohol Shipping (Wine)
Who Can Ship Wine
Who Can Ship Wine
Only properly licensed wholesalers, licensed dealers, licensed distributors, licensed manufacturers or licensed importers may ship wine via FedEx services. Consumers may not ship wine or alcohol of any type via FedEx services.

How do we know she is not an authorized shipper? She perhaps could hold those credentials if she had all that wine in her possession. Can you prove otherwise?

If not Fed Ex then I am sure there are other services that allow the wine to be shipped, that do not violate the TSA rules. While I am not an expert on Fed Ex shipping standards I am versed in TSA restrictions and the violation that this lady was executing on TV.

As for my instructions to the old lady, I would have told her to chuck it in the trash.

Actually, I'd love to see a link to this supposed TSA regulation that was broken.....

Are you saying you have NEVER heard the announcement that states; "Do not take packages or bags through the security checkpoint that do not belong to you"

Since you no longer reside on the business side of a cockpit door perhaps you could flash back.

So you are the PIC and find out that several passengers brought items through the security checkpoint that were not theirs. The people that carried the items and the person that gave them the items are on your flight. No chance they had pieces of material in each package to use in a manner of a bad deed, right?

I suppose you have to experience the great loss of friends in an event for you people to actually see the danger of what this old lady was doing. Because SWA does not take safety or security seriously you are opening the door for the bad guys to visit you with this lackadaisical approach to a serious issue.

Nope - all I'm asking for is a TSA regulation citation. Surely if this was a violation of a TSA regulation, there is such a regulation.....unless announcements now carry the weight of a regulation.

You have plenty of time on your hands. Help yourself. Unless you are one of the US pilots trying to over turn age 60.

Are you implying announcements are not enforceable? Interesting take I must say. Oral instructions bear no basis for you? No wonder your F/O's never listened to you!

Glad you have no fear of terrorism in the rocking chair.
