Maybe I missed it dell, but was that a yes? CRA loans were the cause of the near meltdown of our financial sector? Which part of the CRA mandated wrapping these loans in to CDO's and selling them off as "investment grade". I guess I missed that part.

I think what Dell is trying to say is that this is what happens when government grants special privileges to favored private entities that facilitate bad actors (no job, no credit, and no capital). Banks are regulated, credit unions and saving and loans are regulated why wasn’t Government Sponsored Enterprises regulated? That's what Bush tried to do in 2005, regulate Freddie and Fannie.

But were CRA loans what caused the meltdown of the financial sector, and which part of the CRA mandated that banks buy and sell CDO's made up of crap loans?

Anybody tell you they were playing the same game on the other side of the pond too?

Rolling Stone has a column plus other articles that have looked into these issues for quite sometime.....National Affairs is one column.....with many other very good articles in each issue.

Your CDO rant is an evolution of the toxic loans getting converted/passed on down to the next stupid banking institution.

Don't tell nobody Dell reads left wing radical BS.

Which was NOT mandated by the CRA but that WAS allowed by the Gramm Leach Bliley act

Truer words were never spoken. Republicans seem unanimous in their refusal to believe that the deregulation of the banks played any role in it. To them, deregulation is the absolute best way in the world to let the free market run. And every time I think that I have to remind myself that I am posting to an AIRLINE board.
 
But you seem to lean against the GOP when actually they both screwed up.....unintended consequences.
Carter and Clinton moves and toxic loans for a touchy feely cause, bundle it all up in derivatives, shorts and CDO's and look what we done. So one side comes of with a stupid program that should never morphed into what it did, others took advantage of existing finance law (passed with help from both parties) and it almost brought down the house.

I had a mortgage back around 94, it got sold so many times I couldn't believe it. About every other month I had a new mortgage company.

And now you got Frank/Todd which isn't going to help either.
 
Doesn't everyone have a constitutional right to own a home, an xbox and at least one flat screen because according to demorat liberal agendas they do and THAT is what got us here........KC!
