What's new

Disgusting

Sorry Garf, but no matter what feel good cookies you and Europe are serving , I agree with the husband of one of the victims. "He should be returned to his country, the same way his wife was returned to hers..........................in a box!"

IMO it’s a bit naive to think releasing this guy is going to make any potential terrorist think twice. We dropped bombs on Serbians in order to protect Muslims in the Balkans. Did that really matter to people like Osama Bin Laden? Obviously it did not.

777,

Dropping bombs and the compassionate release are not the same thing. Dropping bombs is what we are expected to do and is what terrorists say we will do and is what they use to justify their actions toward the US. It is also what they use to get more recruits.

What I am saying is that we are being portrayed as cold, heartless and repressive. Holding this man in jail till he dies would feed that perception that is being propagated. Releasing this guy (as distasteful as it is) goes against the image that the terrorist are trying to pin on the US. I have no idea if someone will think twice. he possibility does exist. Just as showing a bit of respect to the terrorist sited in the article above garnered more information, this too might yield fruit. Keeping him jail till he dies does nothing other than satisfy revenge. I prefer the option of perhaps saving someone from a similar fate.

I disagree. He was found guilty and sentenced. He should serve his time, period.

There is no justification for his release.

How are we cold hard and repressive when hes not in our jail?

How about a little hug to make it all go away?

Dell,

The image that the terrorists are trying to paint us with has little to do with the location where this bastard was being held. It comes from cluster screw ups like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, our support with Israel.

ll things equal I would have no problem seeing him rot away in jail as well. He showed no compassion so why should he be shown any. The thing is, his release could save a life or many lives. His being in jail will not do anything good. I think the chance is worth it.

Yeah I guess you are right.........................

Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi flies home to hero’s welcome

The Lockerbie bomber flew out of Britain yesterday as a dying man deserving of compassion — and landed in Libya a national hero.

A crowd of thousands, many waving Scottish flags, gathered at Tripoli airport to welcome Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi as he stepped down from Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s private jet to the strains of patriotic music.

He was then taken in a motorcade to the city centre, where the main square was lit up in green and blue in preparation for a celebration that included a feast and laser show. The pan-Arab television channel Al-Jazeera reported that al-Megrahi’s car was held up along the way by the throng.

So much for touchy feelyisms............

Compassion is the way..........

So you know for a fact that it will not? There are people who would throw a parade for Manson were he set free, does tat mean we all support him? the idiots cheering him are not everyone. Their might be one person who might say this does not jib with what he was told. I think it's worth it. Just for the possibility and the best PR that the US/UK could get.

The same reason Obama elected to not publish the remaining Fallujah pictures if you can't figure it out.

Lay off the catnip Dude.............

What if he comes to America and seeks health care under our totally messed up system and gets his prostate removed and lives to kill again?
[deleted]delldude.

I give you a pass on most of your stuff, but this one takes the cake.

Why must you turn this into an anti health care reform issue.

You are better than that.

I thought in order to be a 'martyr' had to die fighting for the cause. Just like the kamikazes during WWII had to die trying to take out the enemy. If they came home and landed ... well that just did not happen.

I seriously doubt they would have released him if medical care were an option.

He got released by the "enemy". Everyone knows it happened. They can no longer say we have no compassion. I think it was a game well played.

And what "game" is that? You seriously think that this gesture just warmed the hearts of terrorists around the world? Is that it?
