DL CEO says value fares are coming.

He's talking about a cabin within a cabin style no-frills fare.

Good luck with that.... So what happens when the FA gets to the row that starts the Greyhound seating and Grand Ma needs a water to take her pill, does the FA go into snub mode? That's what value fares are about, right?

uh, no it is not.

I do recall that there was one US legacy carrier that charged for water... and that wasn't even with Greyhound fares.

most likely won't change much in the cabin except new seats for economy+ and probably
keep with the complimentary food as they do on transcons.
Looks like Delta IS gearing up for 4 class service.  BE/economy+/economy comfort and economy.
and when do we go into "Snub mode" over water?
I think the service will be the same for economy passengers as it is today.

at least dramatically slowed it down.

how about you take a look at B6's last investor conference and see what they had to say about NYC.... and then pull out some data that shows that DL's growth in NYC has largely come in dramatically slowing B6's.

of course a big reason why B6 has been unable to grow in NYC has been because DL has taken AA's market share which B6 was lapping up for years.

So why didn't DL (Song) finish off B6?
I think the lack of additional slots at JFK (and LGA) is what limited B6 growth in NYC,not DL Song

B6 not being in the GDS's also slowed down their initial growth. As soon as they switched over to Sabre and were available for agencies to shop/price/buy, they started to do pretty well.

Song was simply an ill advised response to B6, and wound up creating a confusing product offering to DL customers. No idea how much they racked up in losses on that one, but killing off Sammy the Sperm was the best thing that happened to Song.

E's assessment is pretty accurate but the lack of slots wasn't really the reason for B6's relative lack of performance relative to DL.

It is true that DL has hubs at both LGA and JFK while B6 has to compete largely just from JFK. A lot of destinations do not generate good returns from JFK if they can be served from LGA since LGA is the primary short-haul airport for NYC.

and you think governments just let airlines set up shop without paying rent?

at least dawg gets this part.

Compass was NOT an airline within airline strategy. and regional carriers are NOT low cost compared to mainline carriers. They are and have been HIGHER CASM units.

AGAIN YOU'RE IGNORANTLY WRONG and combative too.
thanks to BK, yep. Ask the city of Atlanta how the DeltaNorth thing worked out....... (or ask Tampa......or Dallas......)

they pay rent while they are there but thanks to BK they can just dump the hangar on the local government and walk away.

they don't set up shop for an extended period of time. BK gives companies a breather in reworking their contracts but it isn't a lifetime pass. And what wasn't paid generally has to be caught up at some point, even if under renegotiated terms.

and US airports are littered with shuttered or terminals with significantly reduced operations. The era of RJs and 6 network carriers provided justification for keeping 3-4 or more hubs per carrier. with mergers, you still need only 3-4 major anchor hubs which means a lot of hubs have been shuttered and will be shuttered.

DL has finished that process and WN is largely thru.... AA and UA still have a lot of work to do.
