We at AWA have an employee group called the "Do Crew" for quite sometime. Now it's the US Airways "Do Crew". The Do Crew get's involved with the community and volunteers their time to help people and promote goodwill in the community. Honestly I haven't been a member of the "Do Crew", but feel compelled to join now. I want to meet new people with positive attitudes that get things done. People of action. For others who feel the same way I've provided information below from today's edition of "US Daily":

> US DAILY
> Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005

> The US Airways "Do Crew" allows employees, their family members and
> friends an opportunity to get involved in the community. Do Crew members
> can volunteer with nonprofit organizations in the arts and culture, health
> and human services, education and civic sectors.

> employees receive a Do Crew T-shirt and earn lapel pins designed after

> applied toward free merchandise, movie tickets and restaurant gift
> certificates. The more you volunteer, the more prizes and pins you
> receive!
> VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SWEET DELIGHTS DELIVERY

There are more things to life than a contract. Contracts have nothing to do with the Do Crew. It's all about helping the community. There are plenty of workers that leave the contract at work and volunteer in their time in their communities helping people in need. They are people of action and conviction.

???

Eric,

A laudable program. Any scuttlebutt about starting "DO Crews" in the eastern bases/focus cities? After all, going 2/3 the way across the country and back uses up a lot of people's time to speed a few hours doing good deeds. There are plenty of opportunities for such things on this side of the country.

Jim

Jim,

I think that was the intent of including information in today's edition of "US Daily" I urge all those interested around the country to contact Do.Crew@usairways.com or contact Community Relations in Tempe at (480) 693-3652. Joining with other employees to help your communities will provided services to those in need and help build relationships amongst work groups. I've been helping with our United campaign at work and I can't tell you how many new freindships I have developed with all who have volunteered. I'm hooked now! (no pun intended) 😀

I guess what I was asking - very poorly - was whether this is something the company authorizes and sets up or more of a grass roots self-organized thing?

The company is involved, to what extent I'm not really sure Jim. I'll get some more information tomorrow about it. Just from experience with doing volunteer work in the past like the United Way campaign people are empowered to make decisions. I would guess there is a very loose and friendly organizational structure. Who wants to volunteer their off time from work just to be around people telling them what to do in a bossy manner? From what I've seen Doug is a very large supporter of the group and folks get company recognition for their efforts.

Do Crew is a great thing, as was the old "Cactus Club"

Employees volunteering their time to help the community and to show that US is made up of good people who want to help others.

Even if it isn't in their contract....

is it just for the US Air folks or can the cities such as ABE and MDT do it too even though those are Piedmont cities? and the cities that are PSA cities?

Just curious,

Have you seen this? It's called the "Heritage Logo". The "new" US Airways is "inclusive" of ALL and that means PSA and Piedmont, too...

thats basically what i was getting at at this stage in the game.

After 9/11, President Bush encouraged all Americans to become involved and help in their communities.
Some folks donate to Red Cross, some help out at soup kitchens, there's Habitat for Humanity, etc.
Do Crew is just another way to help your community, but because we have a large group of employees, the company can help organize them and buy them t-shirts to increase our prescence.
Its an added benefit for community-service minded folks.

I'm proud of our Do Crw folks.

God, I'm tired of this "us" and "them" attitude! Even when it comes to doing volunteer work outside the company on your own time! 😛

It's beginning to appear that instead of doing whatever it takes to get the job done and keep the customers, that this is becoming an EXCUSE to as little as possible. Do you want the merged airline to succeed? If so, you haven't proven it by your attitude (and I bet your actions haven't indicated any differently, either.) If you don't want it (you) to succeed then don't let the door hit you in the a$$.

We need to get all this energy re-directed to crushing the competition -- not each other!

 Thanks. That felt good. 😉
