I do see the folly of attempting to "instruct" as to any notions of "reasonable"/"respectfull"/etc..as this is just become a game of "I want mine" from the west..and "you can't have what's not yours" from the east.

It's just gonna' be a recipe for disaster on all fronts.

Um, nobody eats pecan pie in the summer. That seems why the hotel needed some dumb-ass carrier to foist off un-used pies in an advertising scheme that will only benefit Parker, and the hotel.

Also, to EMB.. USAir was looking at AirCal and AA stole them out from under Colodney. He did the knee-jerk response and bought the only other similar carrier, PSA. The excessive price paid to buy Piedmont almost scuttled the entire deal. I believe the professionalism of PSA keep much of the result afloat.

I thought PSA the first choice, and I know USAir-PSA was about a year before USAir-Piedmont.

Some believe USAir was actually pursuing AirCal because of fleet commonality — (Boeing 737-300s) — but that American Airlines spoiled the deal and PSA was its second choice. Upon hearing that USAir was interested in AirCal, American Airlines aggressively courted the AirCal Board of Directors. It made more sense for American Airlines to purchase PSA due to fleet commonality, but American Airlines was determined not to concede market share. Therefore, many believe the American/AirCal deal was essentially an attempt to impede USAir's expansion. However, this plan did not work.

The tone of that paragraph bothers me so I'm not sure as to the motives of its writer, but I do recall at the time of the purchase that American was in a rush to get AirCal before others.

I had thought it was because of access to SNA (at least that is how I remembered it when I lived in Newport Beach), but I guess there could be other motives. I don't believe it was as simple as to "stick it to USAir", but those of us in California were unhappy that all 3 of our carriers (Western, AirCal and PSA) ended up with "foreign" ownership so for many of us, USAir is all about failure considering what became of those old PSA routes.

Unfortunately, HP is "in charge" of US this time so I doubt we'll be spared the luxury of US abandoning the west again. Though we can only hope.

What's your point?...If any at all?

I only mentioned that Admiral Pettigrew was in a cameo in the film. He also flew for PSA. If you knew your aerial history at all...you would know that he also took down a Mig in '72, and I'll admit to including him by way of PSA heritage Pride if you will. He was an easy communal reference via the film, or so I'd thought. A virtual ton of USN® types were at PSA, as well as some sprinkling of us "token" USAF®/ANG guys. We had the benefit of some really great guys and superb pilots.

Perhaps you mean that fighter training isn't really like the movie showed?...You mean that you don't need to have your radome shoved up an opponent's burner can for "I just need another twenty seconds"? via "Iceman", within which time you might as well have mailed him the rounds or missile?...Sigh...thanks for clearing that up for me

I'd suggest future discretion on your part as to sitting in judgement of the "world of reality". You may risk finding yourself simply displaying a rather limited notion as to what constitutes such.

You know getting PSA confused with Air Cal may not seem all that big a deal. However it does raise questions regarding the leadership of US Airways. Especially given the topic of his remarks. Kind of insulting to the former PSA folks.

BUT as long as the bonus check clears the bank all is well.

Southern merged with North Central. They became Republic July 1, 1979. Later on Hughes Air West joined Republic.

Allegheny changed its name to US Air then bought up PSA then Piedmont.
