TWA 747SP -------- The three 747 SP's that TWA had were sold to the Shah of Iran. Was a quick sale. Rumor was to make payroll. TWA bought the aircraft for an route that we did not get. Was used for a while LAX/BOS/FCO
The ex-N58201 with TWA, sold in 1985 to the United Arab Emirates for use by heads of state. It was bought by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation (Sands Hotel) in 2007 to haul high rollers to Las Vegas and Macau ... seen at LAX this past week, probably there in connection with the Rose Bowl Game ...

My recollection is a bit different, but this is just that; my recollection. We bought the SP's when PanAm and TWA were vying for a route to PEK and we didn't want to be turned down for not having an appropriate aircraft. PA got the route. I think two went to AA and one to some Middle Eastern bigwig who used it as a personal aircraft.

We sold nine standard size 747's to Iran in 1975, one of which crashed going into Madrid in 1976.
