F/A Contract

Wow!!! We just had a meeting this morning with upper management and this was brought up. They expected the F/A Contract to pass and the Ramp Contract to be a no-go. They acted as if this were in the bag at 0600.

The plot definitely thickens. This might actually be either the end of the wage slide of the end of NW. I still think they are being bought out by the end of the summer and I still think it will be DP riding in to give US some asian routes.

Way to go flight attendants.

You've got them where you want them now.

Beat them down, don't give an inch.

Then they'll have to go out of business.

Then you will have WON!!!!!

Have fun pointing out the emergency exits at McDonalds.

Northwest Airlines Flight Attendants Reject Pay Cut Package, Setting Up Possible Showdown

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Northwest Airlines Corp. flight attendants rejected a pay cut package on Tuesday, setting up a possible showdown with the nation's fifth-largest carrier.
The Professional Flight Attendants Association said 80 percent of its members voted against the deal. Soon after, Northwest said in a bankruptcy court filing that it would move "soon" to impose its terms on flight attendants with or without the judge's permission. The union has not disputed Northwest's legal right to do that.

Northwest said in the filing that it would prefer that Judge Allan Gropper rule on its earlier request to impose terms on flight attendants.

The union said it wants to talk.

"PFAA is prepared to immediately return to negotiations with the company in order to reach a fair and equitable agreement as soon as possible," union President Guy Meek said in a hotline message to members. He said the union reserves the right to strike. A strike authorization ballot won support from 92 percent of union members in February.

Northwest has been seeking savings worth $195 million a year from flight attendants as part of $1.4 billion in concessions from all its workers. Most workers have approved concessions. The other holdouts are baggage handlers and ramp workers, who are voting through this week on their own concessions. Their ballots will be counted on Friday.

The rejection is a setback for Northwest's reorganization efforts. That's because none of its new union contracts take effect until they all do. That means that provisions in the ratified pilot contract allowing Northwest to start a regional jet subsidiary are on hold, along with plans to restructure how ground operations are handled outside Northwest's hubs.

The rejected contract would have cut hourly pay by 21 percent and would have left flight attendants making roughly $18,000 to $43,000 a year. The union said that increases in health insurance premiums and other concessions would have meant losing the equivalent of 40 percent of their pay.

The union said the vote was 5,195 against and 1,270 for. The PFAA represents about 9,300 flight attendants, although some were prevented from voting because they weren't current on their dues.

Northwest has a history of labor troubles. When mechanics struck in August, Northwest kept flying and eventually hired permanent replacements. Its pilots struck in 1998.

Way to go F/As! This goes to show that there is another union that is willin to stand up to the inept cronies of Scab Air. I also hope that the ramp agents turns theirs down to. Now what will PTO do if Scab Air shuts down completely cause they cant get their way with the unions?

PUHL-EEZ! Just sink NW to make room for REAL airlines.

Hats off to the FAs! The FAs have a lot more character than does the IAM SCAB union.

NW, hopefully going down soon!

Well, this is gonna delay the AA takeover of NW. B)

The plan all along was for AMR to pounce as soon as all NW labor groups ratified their concessions. The scab mechanics could be kicked to the curb, and the AA professional AMTs would handle maintenance for the combined airline.

This news will definitely throw a wrench in that plan.

I am most certain this was a serious set back for NWA. I really do not think they were expecting this at all from the F/A's. As far as AA taking over NWA, I think you can forget it. With the current flight loads NWA can't afford to have an aircraft barbecued on the tarmac while the "AA Professional AMT's look for a problem.

Never say Never..I do however agree with the part about NWA not being able to have those aircraft properly maintained. they have you SCABBYS to whip it off, whip it good.... If and thats a BIG "IF", AA decided to purchase NWA , it would probably go after its routes and not so much that junk flown over there. We have enough aircraft just waiting in the desert to be reinstated to take up the slack. OBTW...they are the best maintained airplanes in the world.

I dont wish ill will for any airline employee. I hope it is the end of the wage slide. It seems the f/a's might be better off not working at NW than taking the new contract offer. I know we have heard from several former AMT's -union professionals that is, but has anyone done a scientific poll to see how much money they are now making, whether they are happier or if they are currently employed? If the f/as knew there was life after NW they might stick to their guns knowing there was opportunity elsewhere. The fear of the unknown can be overhwelming. I hope to blazes that DP keeps his paws off NW as the HP merger is still an uphill battle. Picking up asian routes might be the way to go but again I wish the best for all the union professionals at NWA.

Have fun pointing out the emergency exits at McDonalds.

It seems someone is a little nervous about their job at NW. I am proud of the f/a's voting no. It's about time someone had the b**ls to stand up to management.

Way to go!!!

Why is it that some of you think that if you dont work for this airline you end up at Mickey D's? Do you not understand there are other employers that would be more than happy to have dedicated well rounded employees? Are you so afraid of losing your job because that is where you will end up if NWA closes shop? The f/a's will decide whether of not the contract will work for them or go on strike and since it is their job on the line they will make the best decision in their estimation. Not someone who makes assinine remarks. They understand the ramifications of their vote and talk about who has beaten down. Go pound salt.

My heart goes out to all NWA F/A's. However, let's place the 'evil nwa management' (which is true) rhetoric on hold and explore the reality of this decision.

It is all part of the NWA master plan. Mgt wants the F/A's to 'strike', as replacements are already on standby. After seeing what they have done to highly skilled and educated aircraft mechanics...don't think for a minute that they can't replace the F/A group. It will be a combo of young and eager new hires to work domestic flights and foreign replacements for International flights. Unfortunately, NWA is setting the new stage as we speak.

1. Contract will be thrown out
2. Followed by Strike
3. Replacement F/A group - overnight
4. Cost savings goal achieved
