F/A going past the wing, what is the deal?

Please pardon my ignorance, but could someone please explain what is behind the rule (often referred to on these pages) concerning the F/A assigned to the forward cabin from going aft of the wing on HP metal. Is it some sort of security thing or a cabin service issue? Is the "boundary" at the exit row or the at the forward edge of the wing? How big of deal is it if he/she steps behind the line? Is the aft F/A allowed forward of the line?

Its a post 9-11 thing.
There should always be a FA in the "forward cabin" to monitor goings-on.
The boundry is considered to be the last overwing exit row on 319/320 and last row of cabin B on 757.
The first can wander around as long as there is another FA in the "forward cabin".
FAs adhere pretty strictly to this procedure ever since one of the better FAs was written up by a non-rev for going all the way to the aft galley while picking up trash.
Not worth the hassle of dealing w/inflight, nor the unpaid days off he received as a result.
Easier to just do the job the way its written.

After all, word of mouth seems pretty unreliable in this company.......

I certainly hope so! We hate this crap that they implemented on us and our union agreed to this stupid procedure. One of our flight attendant who was a flight attendant a month got suspended (because the company wanted to set an example). He's a great flight attendant who always works first class and always helps out in the main cabin by doing coffee and tea service. He goes above and beyond, but the company punished him anyway because he went passed over wing. I hope they change it because the service suffers.

Sounds like a power hungry manager with a tiny pee pee that is making these kind of decisions. You guys have some of the most stupid and anal retentive bullshiit rules. Get ready to suspend 5000 of us as those rules are just STUPID!!!! :lol:

I'm sure most Westies agree with you!
But, we've just learned its easier to play by their rules.
Less stressfull for those of us who prefer to fly under the radar.
HP has managed to turn its FAs into Stepford Stews.
 
It will be the east way..I was already told by someone out west that it is going to change to the east procedure...so now all you westies can move about the a/c like you should be able to without getting written up. Whoever wrote that rule is an idiot!

A non- rev wrote someone up for picking up trash all the way to the back? Please tell me you spread that name around.... Gimme a break... 🙄

I hope it does become the East way. Working the a/c should be a team effort. When I am flying "A" I am always in the back serving from the fwd galley/picking up trash/answering call bells/cash cowing. Whatever the f/a's in the back need help with. This imaginary line that is drawn is ridiculous.

This rule is stupid and childish at the very minimum... It makes me laugh - I think if i had a supervisor on my flight - I would step past the exit row and bust into CIARA and start singing "wait - wait a minute" ooohhhh i am not supposed to be here - punish me baby - just one more time... and then roll my eyes and laugh. Then continue on my merry way to the rear of the aircraft after busting into - I'm bringing sexyback - MORONS!!!!
