U.S. taxpayers would get checks of several hundred dollars from the government under a plan to stimulate the economy, sources said today. Sources on Capitol Hill and at the Treasury Department said negotiators agreed to cut checks for $600 per individual and $1,200 per couple.

Don't despair yet:

The rebates would phase out gradually for individuals whose income exceeds $75,000 and couples with incomes above $150,000, aides said. Individuals with incomes up to $87,000 and couples up to $174,000 would get partial rebates. The caps are higher for those with children.

Great. Congress in its infinite wisdom will pay me $1,200 that it does not have so that We the People will be an additional $150-$200 BILLION in debt on top of a debt that already exceeds $9 TRILLION.

God forbid that the useless Congress actually practice some damn oversight like the freaking Constitution mandates that it does. Maybe then they would have seen the banks making loans to people who would not have a snow balls chance in hell of repaying them. Nah, too easy. Much easier to screw the people over.

I would love for every single person to take the check(s) and send it back to Congress telling those SOB’s to pay down the debt. That would screw them up. Congress want me to spend my money on US products. Has anyone tried to buy US recently? Nothing is made here any more. My money is going into my savings account and will pay bills. I have not bought any consumer goods since X-mass and I have no intention on wasting money on BS to bail Congress/POTUS out of a mess some saw coming along time ago.

Yep! I'm hearing 300 bucks a pop per kid. Some will make out nicely. Also I'm hearing that they are setting up a plan for people who don't file tax returns (read: illegals) to get the money too.

Fortunately, I don't qualify - I guess that's a good feeling.

I've heard a number of 'pulse line' mechanics in TUL grossed over a 100 grand, so its not just the suck arses in MCI.

This so really sucks! I did not fly too much last year, so I got very little, understandable. Our construction company did okay, but it was one of our worst years ever....but yet we made a higher amount then most. So we will get nothing. We worked 100% more than an average 40 hour work week. (80-90 hours per week) We paid over 42% in tax last year. Our sales this year are devastating! Where is the justice?

All this welfare check will do is stimulate the Chinese economy since every thing we use today is made any where but the USA
