It was so hot in DCA today that this plane sunk 4 inches into the pavement!

"They spent over an hour trying to get it out with the tug-truck, before they deplaned us. Still didn't work. Then they off-loaded luggage to try to make it even lighter and blasted the engines to try to get it out. After two hours, they gave up and cancelled the flight." __________________

According to the Washington Post, the flight wasn't cancelled but rather left 3 hours late.

I had a similar experience on a UA 727 back around 1999 or so. We were at LGA on the BB or CC taxiway (I think- West side of RY 4 holding for 13), and after sitting in the same spot for an hour, the airplane wouldn't budge. The mains had sunk into the pavement a bit (not sure if as much as this case). In any event, after another half hour, they got the aircraft behind us out of the way, and we had to use near takeoff thrust to break away and move.......just adding to the delay...memorable because of this and because it was my second to last ride ever on the amazing tri-holer.

Was it really because of the heat? Or the vermin such as rabbits and groundhogs that have been a runway problem for years?
...just like golf courses!

Man is it hot? You have got to be kidding? 105 degrees for the last ten days..... 98 degrees at 11pm at night.... Its hotter than ??? You can fill in the blanks...

Seems all they needed was a much larger tug (paymover) to free the aircraft. Guess the small electric tug wasnt strong enough. So this took Three Hours to figure out ????

Should have brought Joe Patronni out of retirement....he would have just powered it out...🙂

So your new avatar is obviously a mockery of US, how mature!!

Wollard has a good web page, he can use this one!

Remind me of the infamous summer of 1990 when the PHX airport closed after reaching 122.
