Designed to prevent incidents such as the Malaysia MH370 disappearance. (Not the disappearance itself, but rather the inability to find the a/c or remains.) Considering the vastness of the world's oceans, though, I don't see how knowing the point of impact will tell you much more than we already know. The a/c is bound to break into multiple pieces--either on impact or as it sinks to the bottom. Which is another question...if the majority of the wreck is at a point tens of thousands of feet below the surface, is there much that could be done about it?
