“The unemployment rate for EVERY month of the Obama presidency has been higher than every month of George W. Bush’s presidency, every month of Bill Clinton’s presidency, and every month of George H.W. Bush’s presidency." -- NRO's Jim Geraghty

Just one of the things that make you go Hmmmm.

That is what happens when you take office in the middle of an economic freefall.

Can't blame Bush, he was just a stuffed suit.

The fact that this would make you go 'hmmmmmmmmmmm' is quite concerning. If I fail to tighten the lug nuts on the wheel one day and you drive it the next, who's fault is it when the wheel comes off?

It's your fault especially when you floor the gas after the wheel has fallen off as you race for the cliff. A smarter person would stop and fix it. Not drive it over cliff.

If you look at the history of my posts you'll note my feelings on a Presidents ability to influence economic cycles. Most of what is transpiring under Obama's watch IMO is a result of our staggering debt and dependence of foreign oil. You want to argue that the stimulus package slowed the rate of decline in unemployment rates? Or that it prevented a Depression, I can go that far. But to go and say oh is this guys fault or that guys fault is a bridge to far.

Why I posted the OP was I was/am honestly surprised that the current unemployment rate surpasses over 20 years of Presidents from both parties which happens to be the same 20+ years of runaway debt growth. Cause & Effect? I think so. You can lay a lot of things at Obama's feet including unemployment, I just don't think it very fair or honest intellectually. There is plenty of blame to go around on unemployment.

And yet that is not what your OP said or implied. You dance better than Ginger and Fred. I'm with 777. Make up your mind. I'm getting dizzy watching you dance from side to side on issues. Your OP clearly places all blame at the feet of Obama.

It is the responsibility of the driver to perform a pre-trip inspection of their vehicle before going on the highway to ensure their safety and the safety of others.

Fine, make it something that pre-trip inspection will not discover. Missing Crank bolt, missed debris in the oil pan.... what ever. Stop evading the point.

Internal engine issues not relevant to safe driving.

Tire pressure, security of wheels, tread depth, vehicle lighting, all vital and the responsibility of the driver.

I posted the Quote From National Review Online because I found it interesting. I had no idea it was that bad. I've NEVER at any time believed that the POTUS has much control of the economy. First off, the never been audited Federal Reserve with it's printing press money controls the economy in many ways. Do you honestly think anyone of the POTUS twits of the last 20 years had the courage to direct the Federal Reserve Board where to have lunch, much less anything of substance?

The only thing a sitting President can do is Balance the Federal Budget. Or in that case of the last 4 POTUS's decide not to. Clinton was the only one to even seriously attempt it and even then it still grew. In fact the Clinton years marked the first time the Debt to GDP ratio rose above 60% post WWII.

If you want to lay the current unemployment rate and its stubborn refusal to decline at Obama's feet, I think you have to make the case that the root cause is the staggering Federal Debt Coupled by Obama's unwillingness to balance the budget and stem the flow of red ink. Was he responsible for creating all 14 trillion in debt? NO, he wasn't, however he did put those last few straws on the Camels back by spending like a Sailor on shore leave. The window into how bad it really is comes from the fact that even the POTUS couldn't strong arm S & P into changing its mind on lowering our credit rating.

The last time the unemployment rate was higher than 2010 was in 1982, a jump of almost 2% from 1981.

It was the highest annual rate since the Department of Labor started keeping statistics in 1949.

Hmmmmm, remember Reagan?

And driving, much less safe driving has nothing to do with what I posted. We are talking about cause and effect. Try and keep up with the conversation.

I have a hard time believing that but what ever. The OP does not match up with your dance.

No it doesn't!!

I posted it because I thought it would make for a lively exchange. That and I was a little floored at how bad it was. Dog Wonder is correct on the rate being higher going back at least through the Carter Years. I excluded Carter/Reagan because it wasn't until the end of Reagan's 2nd term that the Debt to GDP ratio hit 50%.

Reagan was President for all but about 20 days of those years.

The comparision is fair.

Include Carter, then you have to include Bush Jr..
