According to a source, the wealthy oil and gas magnate and author of “The First Billion Is the Hardestâ€￾ stepped up to introduce himself to Franken in a room just off the Senate Floor after the lunch ended
Franken, who was seated talking to someone else, did not stand when Pickens said hello. Instead, Franken began to berate him about the billionaire’s financing of the Swift Boat ads in 2004.
According to a source, the confrontation grew heated.

Sounds like he gave him all the respect he gave John Kerry when he financed the swift boat ads.

I guess he has not learned to be a politician yet...

stand up, smile, shake his hand, lie to the guy, and act like he likes him.

Yeah.............guess Franken didn't like Pickens pointing out the truth about Kerry !

That he served in a combat zone in Viet Nam as opposed to protecting IN or getting 5 deferments?

Mission accomplished.

There is nothing flashy about Franken's first legislative victory. The Service Dog Veterans Act, which Franken introduced with Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., will set up a pilot program with Department of Veterans Affairs to pair service dogs with wounded veterans.

"He sought me out and I was happy to work with him," Isakson said of Franken. "He'd done his homework, he was very informed. It was obvious he was trying to hit the ground running."

Isakson said he came away impressed....

Franken took particular pride in a small, almost procedural victory. During his questioning Franken said he was able to get Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee to acknowledge there are so-called conservative "activist judges" as well as liberals.

"I thought that was a victory," he said in an interview with The Associated Press. "Every conservative would say I want someone who's not a judicial activist and won't make law from the bench but that's exactly what Justice Thomas is doing. So I was proud of that."

I think he is off to a good start.

Time will tell if makes a good Senator.

Well, most of us know he wasn't a good comedienne !
If you enjoyed any of the early Saturday Night Live shows, you liked him.

He was one of the original writers for the show (when it was funny).

Here is some of his Biography.

He wrote for and performed on SNL from its inaugural season in 1975 to 1980; he returned in 1985 and served as one of the show's producers until 1995. During this time he won four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy, Variety, or Music Series. Some of his most famous appearances were as a frequent commentator on the "Weekend Update" and as the self-help guru Stuart Smalley, a character who Franken expanded into a book, 1993's I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me, and an unsuccessful film, Stuart Saves His Family (1995). On a more serious note, he co-wrote and co-produced the film When a Man Loves a Woman (1994), starring Meg Ryan as a wife and mother struggling with alcoholism....

In 2003, after winning an injunction by Fox News to stop its publication, Franken put out another political satire, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right which included a cover photo of Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly. Aside from openly mocking O'Reilly, a chapter in the book accused the commentator of lying. In August 2003, Fox News sued Franken, claiming infringement of its registered trademark phrase "Fair and Balanced." A federal judge found the lawsuit to be "wholly without merit."

Fox news tried to take him on and he won. Bill O'Reilly took him on, and he won.

He is well hated by the right. I am sure he will be heard in his Senate career.

Don't forget that the main stream media pointed out Bush and Cheneys records for free
What does that mean? For free?

(and they even made some up).
I am sure you have background info on that statement.

Does that make it untrue?

News flash...Fox News is the mainstream media.

Fox was the one Franken took to task as the main stream media who touted itself as Fair and Balanced.

What does that mean? For free?

It means that someone with some money had to help with the invwstigation. The MSM was just doing it on their own.

I am sure you have background info on that statement.

Did you ever hear about Dan Rather's program that was using false documents?
Does that make it untrue?

Using false documents does make me a little skeptical........................

The issue of the thread was Pickens funding a groups that was smearing Kerry's combat record while ignoring the while ignoring the lack of a combat that Bush had and the complete lack of service that Cheney had.

Of course there is plenty of hypocrisy to go around. This is politics we are talking about. A military record only matters when your guys has one and the other guy does not. Carter was in the military, Reagan was not, Bush I was but Clinton was not. Gore was but Bush II was not. Kerry was was but Bush II was not. I recall republicans saying that Clinton could no be POTUS because he had no record and could not lead the military. I suspect those same people were silent when Bush ran.

Bottom line on this issue is that Kerry was on his second tour in Viet Nam. Bush was guarding IN from who knows what when he decided to show up for work. Cheney got 5 deferments. Pickens help fund the slandering for a good man. Don't like Kerry, fine. Fight him on the issues. Don't like McCain, fine fight him on the issues. Don't slander the good reputations of good men trying to serve their country. The really strange part is, both of those men were slandered by the same man ...... And the people of this country elected that SOB 2 times.

Why was he not qualified? I mean aside from you not liking his politics? What does his marriage have to do with anything? Do you have inside info that it is superficial? One could say the same for McCain but they seem to genuinely love each other.

As far as I am concerned, Kerry is as qualified as anyone else is to be POTUS and try to get 100 Sen and 435 reps to vote for his projects. He was/is far more qualified than the slimy lying SOB who beat him. Bush Sr was and is a good man. I may not agree with his politics but he seems to be a decent human being. How W Bush could come from his loins is something Darwin should look into were he alive.

By the way, how many poor men have to seen run for POTUS lately?

I can see where being a business person may have some benefit to being president but I can also see where being in the medical field (thee days) would help as well. How about being in the military, or a history major, hostage negotiator, lobbyist, or a host of other qualities needed to run the biggest 'corporation' in the world. While busines experience may be nice, I do not see it qualifying one to run the country.
