Well, that's not accurate. Policy enacted under any law takes years to ammend. Take the Patriot Act, this has turned into a fascist money sucking behemoth that no one can control (or dare try to). When people cried out against the liberties being taken away for the sake of 'security' we were denounced as unpatriotic and against the gooberment. What has changed today?

Well my friend that's what leadership s all about. Just like now with the looming debt bomb. Will Obama & the Congress demonstrate leadership and tackle an issue that short term will likely piss off 95% of the voters while ensuring their Grandchildren have a free society in which to live? Frankly I'm not seeing anyone up to the task.

The one guy that probably has the required level of testosterone is a borderline nut job. (Trump). After that the gene pool gets mighty shallow. A puddle in fact. Ron Paul has the intellectual honesty for the task, but precious little else to date.

And what is it with Mitt Romney? Why is it that when I listen to him I feel like I need to take a shower afterwards? It's a huge negative gut reaction.

Maybe we should just go with the best looking old broad that's exploring her options???? We might all go to hell in a hand basket but hey Michele Bachman is pretty hot! She's not my Congress Critter but she a few districts away and I've seen her in person and she's pretty tasty looking. Hell it we're going to be led down the path to financial ruin we might as well have a hot chick in the White House. Could it be worse?

There was some pressure from the left to increase home ownership and to keep the sub prime market going. Ti me it's as big a stretch to blame the left for the housing bubble as it is to blame Bush for every thing that ever went remotely wrong.

The whole problem is this.

Think of the taxpayer as the chickens

The problem is the 'handlers', behind the scenes. Puppet masters that hold keys to the skeletons.
They all have them from one extent or another and I doubt that will change anytime soon.
I am sure Leona Helmsley was sent to jail not for her crime but for putting out the truth on the globalist robber barons.

I don't think so. From what I remember reading most of the early/original investors lost. Some of the later ones made a bit IIRC.

Sometimes in business your goal is not a profit, it's to "Lose Less". This is often the case with BK proceedings. It's also why you have airline Transcons for $99.00 one way. With Airlines a seat is a perishable commodity and when if flys PHL to LAX empty it generates no revenue. So if you sell 15-20 seats for $99.00 the flight loses less. Today you throw in a $25 bag fee and the airline might get to break even on a flight on a slow day.

With BK the idea is often the same. You lend me 1 Billion dollars and I run into some adverse business conditions and go C-11. If I convert to C-7 all or 90% of your 1 billion bucks is GONE. However, if you restructure my debt obligation and kick in another 250 million and I emerge from BK you'll likely have stock you can dump and recoup a few hundred million, oh say 300 Million if you sell quickly. OYOH as is often the case the company turns around and you hold the stock for a bit you sell and get back maybe $600 million and the loan is now a performing loan.

Force the company to C-7 and get 100 million or less. Bail them out and recoup maybe 2/3rds of your investment, which in my example would be around 750 million. So while it's not perfect, it does allow a company an opportunity yo recoup some of their loses.

Now if you're the Comfort Inn and you're owed $60,000 by US Airways you're hosed.

In Business, unlike Government programs there is a give and take. He needed a certain dollar figure and the banks needed certain covenants and equity in exchange. It's a basic Quid Pro Quo and the bank was in a stronger negotiating position.
