We, and I mean that literally, pay people to ot do all kinds of things.
I personally know two die-hard "small government", "comservative" Republican deer hunters who own several hundred acres of mesquite, rocks and cactus that the government pays them not to grow crops on.
They don't get it either...

When Romney didn't claim as much in charitable deductions as he could, Lefties were all over him like flies on a dog turd.
Now, your landowner friends take advantage of the existing laws to their own advantage, and they're hypocrites?
Disagreeing with a law while following it is fairly normal behavior. I know people who disagree with the Second Amendment yet own firearms. I don't call them hypocrites. I call them pragmatic.
Now, if you want to take away subsidies/entitlements for one subset of people, but keep them for others, then that's being a hypocrite.
Maybe someone should file an Equal Protection lawsuit against the Administration for treating Federal contractors different from the rest of the country.
