well just for grins suppose a school adopts a "Healthy" Menu for their food service and then you have an Islamic Family sue because their Civil Rights were violated because the food didn't meet Halal Standards? Don't think it can happen? Muslim Prisoners in many prisons get served Halal meals. Then the Orthodox Jews sue and the Vegan Parents get their knickers in twist.

Here's an idea that will knock the socks of the Liberal/Progressives in Education. Have the Vo-Tech kids run the food service as part of their education and save some freaking money? Better still have them create a special buffet line of better food that is only served to Honor Roll Students. A true meritocracy! Screw that fat B*stard who never does his work let him kill himself on Twinkies while those who aspire to greater things get their reward for working hard. That's a life lesson they need to learn.

Of course this would damage Little Fat Boy Billy's precious and fragile self esteem!. Then you get a lawsuit from NAAFA, (National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance) www.naafa.org. It's a real group. I stayed at a hotel where they were having a meeting and let me tell you these folks were whatever definition that is beyond Morbidly Obese. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as I met some and they are charming people so I was kind of sad as these folks will likely not make 60.

The food is not Halal or Kosher now so how would that change?

Since they have not sued now why would they sue later? And even if they did, what would it have to with the healthy food?

Religious grounds. Halal dietary laws (Almost identical to Kosher BTW) are part of Islamic tradition thus in reality it would have nothing to do with the actual food itself but as a Civil Rights law suit. It would be a federal suit and since All Government schools are Federally funded it's not so far fetched. Prisoners did it

The notion of public education dates back well before the USA was even colonized. If was always funded locally and often by private citizens of means. Today of course it's no longer enough to merely make sure Little Billy can read, write and have basic math skills. Now we are expected to feed him too and in some cases watch him in after school care. There are many lessons in life that are taught outside the classroom. One of which is getting up in the morning and making your own damn lunch like I did from Day 1 of the 1st grade. Funny thing is that self reliance has carried me a whole lot further than Miss Bergstrom's required recitation of the multiplication table ever did. Another thing I learned was I have a right to question Authority. Got that from my Dad. It seems the really important thing I learned outside the classroom.

I'm perfectly fine with the idea of no school lunch.
 
Start looking at your food labels, more and more are Halal prepared.
Like your favorite Butterball.

Are you purposefully being obtuse? The food is not Halal/Kosher now. The food may or may not be Halal/Kosher after the change. If someone was going to sue they could have done so already. If the food is changed they can still sue. Therefore since the food is currently not meeting religious dietary requirements and worst case scenario it still does not after the food over haul any law suits would have nothing to do with the fact that that the food is healthier.

Sure, let the kids who cannot fend for them selves go hungry. Not our problem.

When ever you wonder why libertarians are not taken seriously and do not win elections this would be one of many reasons why. Libertarians (if you are representative) do not seem to give a rats ass about anyone but them selves. Absolute 'freedom' bordering on anarchy is of paramount concern. If people cannot make it for what ever reason, too bad. I've got mine and the rest of you can do what ever. That is not a very popular out look.

When it comes to Federal Government intervention into our day to day lives your assessment is largely accurate.

However what you and most others miss that I am my Brothers keeper NOT the Federal Government. I long for the day when the Federal Income tax is repealed and I can donate that same money to the Salvation Army or any number of other groups who will provide services at a far lower cost than the Federal bureaucracy could ever dream of delivering them for. I've done the heavy lifting of delivering food during the late evening so the neighbors won't see a family getting a helping hand. No government can feed a family while allowing them to keep their dignity and pride. To me it's a simple choice. Allow the Federal Government to confiscate my wages and waste them on foreign wars, Crony Capitalism and inefficient redistribution of wealth schemes OR to take responsibility for myself and my fellow man and do the right thing. I choose the latter. Character comes from within, not from a block of Government cheese.

And what you fail to realize is that private institutions can pick an choose who they want to help. Those who are not fortunate enough to be in the group du jour are out of luck. Federal agencies or state agencies must help everyone and the selection process must be equal for all.

That's a cop out and not a very good one as the role of the federal Government is clearly enumerated in the COTUS. I put my faith in God and Man, You put your faith in spineless bureaucrats and snake oil salesmen like the Empty Suit. Over time it has been shown which group delivers and which group delivers empty promises. Want proof? Drive to an Indian Reservation or Appalachia and see exactly how well your beloved Federal Government delivers on its promises.
 
If you want to drag the Native Americans into the conversation then you can take a look at Manifest Destiny and your precious religion. They viewed the natives as heathens and their treatment followed.
