Hendrick Motorsports Plane Crashes

10 Fatalities , on board were John Hendrick, Ricky Hendrick and engine builder Randy Dorton. John Hendrick is Rick Hendricks brother and Ricky Hendrick is Rick Hendricks son. Story at charlotte.com .Crashed near Martinsville VA.

Search under way for missing Hendrick plane

Arlene Murray, an FAA spokeswoman, said the Beech 200 took off from Concord, N.C., for Martinsville, Va., about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. It crashed in the Blue Ridge Mountains about seven miles from Martinsville, Va., Highway Patrol spokesman Paul Knipple said.

Very sad news indeed. News reports indicate they crashed about 7 miles west of the MTV airport.

I can only assume they were maneuvering for the GPS RWY 12 approach. The GPS 12 approach is good down to 479'/1 mile, so 500/1 should get you in safely, if RAIM is available. The wx at 16Z shows 600/5.
