From reports that I heard on TV from down there.... The pax was 80+ years old and had convinced his kids to buy him a ride for his b'day as he had learned to fly in a Stearman years before. Supposedly he didn't want to live any longer (kids didn't know this) and the pilot actually tried to stop him from jumpimg but could not get on the ground quick enough
 
I saw this story on another forum, what was said there was that the old gentleman had just been diagnosed with inoperable cancer a short time before, and they figured that he wanted to go out on his own terms!!
