What's new

Hourly Pay Rate

Regretabley, as long as there are pilots out of work, those working are making more that the market.

Its about supply and demand.

I don't know about that...there are millions of doctors and lawyers and the pay is not substandard. You pay for skill.

I know I want the pilot and mechanic flying my plane paid well and happy, not making $50 bucks an hour flying 4 days a week from home 365 days a year or sitting furloughed or a new hire some where waiting to break into the aviation business.

Pilot you are correct---never has or will be unity here---just watch-- the MEC RC4 dudes will be at it again very soon.

Man, you just don't get it do you. The RC4 were the last, best hope for this pilot group. They understood what was going on and tried to stop it. Just like Delta and Northwest are trying to do now.

Use your head. 125 bucks and hour and we still lose money. They pay 190 bucks and hour and make money. And you blame the RC4? You are part of the problem. Get a grip man. Have some balls and realize what it is you do for a living.

Your kidding right---RC4 are our last hope !! MAN O MAN- I can't wait till RC4 gangsters cost me some more money---my last hope is the RC4----holy smokes 18 yrs of this crap and you still dont get it---I know-- I forgot ---sorry "SHOW ME THE MONEY". FULL PAY TILL THE LAST DAY. LOL what a joke. Unity lol what a joke.

Imagine putting the LUV model on this property. Then putting the LUV management here to run it.

You can start with no Hawaii or International flying, that'll decrease some costs. Elimiate a bunch of markets to only fly where they go. Go to only one fleet type, that'll eliminate your costs involved in training, parts, etc.

Not syaing management hasn't royally bungled things before, but it has little to do with how much per hour US folks make in comparison.

Just a little heads up for the US West guys:

When US East is done with you, your pay will be LOWER. Certain LEC's will see to that. (Not the B757's).

Ready for $125/hour? 😉

When you refuse to stand up for the profession you see what you get. You ASSUME had we not given that was the end of the airline. I've had 30 years of this crap, not 18. And I do get it. What cost you money was your refusal to stand up to an incompetent management who took substantially more than was needed. Your pension. Twice. Your pay. Twice. I could go on but you wouldn't believe me. Your fear clouds your judgement.

Watch what happens at DAL and NWA my friend. Watch how their "RC4" shuts them down. Won't happen. Why? Because their "RC4" are the majority of the pilot group. And they understand need vs. want. They get it. You and your give away gang still don't. And Jerry Glass smiles as he figures out how to get yet more from this group. Because of guys like you.

WN's labor cost per ASM is still almost the lowest in the industry. Contributing factors are: one fleet type - no crew ladder induced training events (how many training events are caused by the retirement of one A330 captain)- a pilot in training to transition to another equipment type is not helping generate any revenue; work rules that incentivize pilots to maximize flying; much more point to point flying with minimum ground time between segments (time spent on the ground doesn't generate revenue). Some of WN's advantages cannot be totally duplicated by network carriers. However rolling hubs and other ways of minimizing ground time can help. The crew ladder issue adds millions to the training and labor costs of the major US airlines. Foreign airlines that pay based on seniority have significantly less training.

They are absolutely correct.

And compare the hourly rates for the U 737 and 320 which is 125.00 bucks an hour.

Yet, Southwest can be profitable paying their pilots substantially higher than either U or AWA (140.00 on all jets) as our company tells us we must have rates that are "competitive" with the LCC's.

As I've said all along, it's the management and not the pay rates that determine profitability. Anyone, pilot or otherwise, who even considers giving this company another dime of pay or work rules is just plain nuts.

Imagine putting the LUV model on this property. Then putting the LUV management here to run it.

It's not the employees folks. It's the people who manage us. Always has been, always will be. Wake up.

Southwest [minus-] their Fuel Hedges [=equals] Southwest in the same boat...I'm wide awake..

FYI, Southwest has 65% of their fuel hedged at $32.00/barrel for 2006....These hedges were put into place years ago... 😉
Years ago it was the employees fault US was losing money not fuel did US hedge

Part of the downfall is due to the gene pool. Seems most airline senior managers and execs are the same recycled pile of putrid meat from other companies that have pushed through policies and procedures that are anti employee anti growth and anti morale boosting. Its way over due for fresh blood with a new outlook in the airline industry.
