.....can''t answer that particular question , but here are a couple of numbers to ponder.

As of Feb/March 2003 in Canada:

6661 CPL aeroplane
7985 ATPL aeroplane
1949 CPL heli
567 ATPL heli

Total of 17162 (with a few with both licenses) of which a bunch never fly commercially

4878 commercially registered aeroplanes of which 1083 are over 12550lbs and
1339 commercially registered helicopters

Total of 6217 of which a bunch never fly at all

No idea what it means to me yet, but looks like a lot of bodies for little iron...and not much big iron to move up to.

Anyone?

I think that depends on the company. But the last company i was trying to get into had 4 crews per a/c. I think its like 4 to 6 crews for the heavy irons...can someone confirm this?

Your numbers sound about right.. Back when I worked with the regionals, we had about 4.5 crews for each Dash 8...

All i can say is, jobs avialable for pilots these days are very scarice. Just last week air alliance a tear 3 airline with aircanada cut 2 routes and cut 32 FO''s. Unless ur willing to plunk down $30,000 bucks with Jets Go, their is really nothing avialible for pilots. I think the best thing to do is go back to school get some sort of degree to fall back on our just stay as an instructor. Anyone else with any other kinda of advice?

so okay!! back to the question, although they won''t be much said.....
How many jobs are out there...?, in Avaition, success of obtaining a job is mostly through word of mouth, so people start talking where are the jobs out there. from the fresh Commercial pilot to the experienced, where are we to make a living? the passion for this industry will run out someday when u can''t afford jack! if you can''t remain in the groove to obtain no, wait a minute!! SUSTAIN a job in such a turbulant industry. for those who are nit picky on my spelling, no use picking a objective of critizism cause you never know when your vocabulary is reduced to words that start with the letter F, such as FUN, FANTASY, FABULOUS or the ever so famous FLIGHT!!!, so helping one another instead of back stabbing one another will help bring this industry to a recourse. Stand united (note: i did not say union!!). This is not an industry to be undercutting one another and by all means this is not an industry that is driven by any unions ( as we can all see). Stop all the crap and let us start talking amongst friends. its a forum for god''s sake...
