What's new

HP Retro

I hope the folks in Tempe reconsider this, I would love to see this scheme flying again. As many of had said, the current one is basically nothing more than a hybrid scheme, and as it is present day, it does not really mesh with the other three classic schemes. But it should be what the majority of the former HP employees want as it is "Their Heritage".

Tempe said they were doing the retros as they were flying when they became US, hence the current HP scheme is the retro, I think the " candy striper" needs to be our retro and we could paint each 757 a different state or natiion we service

Better yet, since we are selling out ads on the tray tops, then why don't we make all of the palves a flying billboard????

I know that the HP Retro-Jet has been out but why didn't they use the original scheme,

from the mid '80's?

The current ones aren't really Retro's yet.

Good question...word around the West campus is that the master of self-dealing, aka former CEO Ed Beauvais, gave his wife the copyright to the original paint scheme...or it could be just the original symbol. In any case, every time a plane takes off with that copyright, Mrs. Beauvais can collect. AWA wasn't going to paint the 737-200s but the master of corporate gutting, aka former CEO Bill Franke who followed the Beauvais regime, didn't want to pay Mrs. Beauvais a nickel so he had the -200s painted. Gotta love it when personal grudges drive corporate decision making.

That's the same story that I am aware of.

Ed's wife was also responsible for the terrible artwork that we had to live with at Centerpoint and GO, the "dead indian" faux southwest garbage.

We hated that stuff.

I'd like to see a retro HP in the original colors. They were so much classier than the 2nd livery.

Also, a retro in the original US colors would be awesome. I love the original 1979 US logo/colors. The ultimate in 70s futuristic kitsch, I just can't help loving it.

I'll admit to a fondness for the later PI livery, myself.

Yes, a nice update. I wish they would do a Mohawk retro. They had a nice "mastercard" livery early 70's at merger time. Similar looking to PSA. Colorful.

It's nice to see U honor it's past.

Agreed....

No matter how this merger turns out - even if Doug screw's up royally - this is one thing I'll always give him credit for doing right.

Hopefully, there'll be many other things he can be applauded for doing right, though.
