Oh Boy, it looks like Hurricane Rita is heading directly to Galvaston and up through Houston. Prays are being given to all.

Now speaking solely about aviation in this area, doesn't Continental operate its largest hub at Houston? Have any plans been implemented?

Last I heard, they were pulling down the operation on Friday, and evacuating all of the aircraft.

No idea what they're doing for employees, although CO's SOC is located in Houston, and they can't evacuate without shutting down the airline (their disaster backup sites are also in Houston....)

...actually, after tropical storm Alison in 2001, they built a backup SOC in EWR I thought.

according to the news, IAH is having probelms with no ramp agents or very little due to those folks evacuating. I cant blame them for wanting to get out of harms way, but couldnt CO try to at least get all of their flts out say this morning and put an end to its IAH until after the hurricane?

They actually had brought people in from other stations to work flights and then ended up sendinf them home because they had too many volunteers. Good work Continental

Just talked with friends who live in Humble just east of IAH. Not only did they get very little rain--good bit of wind, but no rain--while I was talking to them, their power came back on. So, they only lost power for about 4 hours.
