Most of the sponsorships that go "official carrier of..." do not necessarly mean that the airline is the one who charters the team. It is pretty much soley for advertising purposes. In fact for many years NW was the airline who chartered most of the Eagles' away games.

Right...the official "Airline" is not the same as the actual airline that carries the team, as the OP implied in the title. Being an official airline in this capacity is a marketing concept that is meant to draw people to see/buy the product.
