"After eight years of disastrous economic decisions by the Bush Administration, this comes as no surprise. It is another opportunity for executives to stuff their pockets at the expense of working-class Americans.
Delta and Northwest management have separately bankrupted their individual airlines. Together, they will have more than $28.8 billion in combined debt and $15.6 billion in unfunded pension liabilities that could be forced onto the American taxpayer if the airline defaults.
The Machinists Union will fight to ensure that workers at the combined airline will be protected by the guarantees that can only be found in a union contract. The days when Delta could ride roughshod over their employees is coming to an end. Delta is creating the world's largest airline. The Machinists Union will make it the world's largest unionized airline."

pockets of BANKRUPT paychecks of Northwest Employees?

How can paychecks be bankrupt? 😱

What?? Thanks to the IAM? It was AMFA and only AMFA that was responsible for the failed strike at NWA. Before your strike, you people went on and on yelling about how that you didn't need the overpaid "bag apes" and "knuckle draggers" in order to be successful ;but that simply "withholding your skills" would be sufficient to bring NWA to it's knees and compel them to give you everything your heart desires. "Strength in skill, not numbers!" was AMFAs motto, remember?

And why do you only single out the IAM? What about ALPA? And what about AMFA's sister union PFAA?

That wasn't my motto..I started my career as an ESE...My problem was with the iam (and I had issues with the iam as an ESE also like PT's pay the same dues as FT's). That is why we as mechanics sought representation by another union..We did not have the option of another union short of independant because as you know all the AFL-CIO unions have a no raid clause. If the iam hadn't treated the mechanics like dirt we would not have thown them out. The mechanics always took the highest paycuts ( as a percentage) and reaped the lowest percentage pay raises as compared to other iam reresentated workgroups under the iam and that is a fact. Why do think the iam scrambled to put together District 149? That was because they knew they had F$$#d up and that they (iam) had a real shot of losing to AMFA this time. And they did.. District 149 was too little too late. As far as the strike? AMFA made mistakes alright but the iam broke the first rule of any strike. You DO NOT do struck work. Even if you hate the union on strike. But I personally knew that no matter what happened to us the rest would suffer if we failed. And you did. The company used our failed strike as a springboard to pull the rug out from under ALL of the remaining workgroups. The strike mattered nothing to me because I was gone anyway after 17 yrs because the best offer (which by the waqy AMFA accepted in the end) was going to eliminate my job as I was in the 53 percent to be eliminated so I had nothing to lose by striking. The company wanted AMFA gone that was apparant the strike was was never an issue. They spent a lot of time and money recruiting replacements and were going to use them no matter what to try to break the union..So think what you want but I know the truth and I do not wish any ill will on the remaining employees but I will not lose any sleep if the iam comes to a demise.

Hey there Triple 7, it looks like the seas are starting to get rough over here...Gotta love the opening lines of this post... 😱

Nicely put Lineguy. I was in the same boat as you. Outstation Lead that was going to be out of a job no matter how the strike went, unless I wanted to move back to DTW/MSP. Had all the labor groups stuck together, things may have turned out differently. I did want to keep my job...not under the terms NWA was proposing (or anything close to it). So I chose to withhold my work. They wanted me to come back and work for Swissport as a contractor doing the same job I did for many years. Thanks, but no thanks.

That chapter of my life is now past, as it is for most. I know we are better off now. I still miss many of the honorable with whom I used to work.

Hopefully Delta sees the scabs for what they are.

Tens of thousands more will be joining you if Delta/NW wins in their usual game of divide and defeat. Pilots could care less, they have seen the writing on the wall and protected themselves, while others dilly dally thinking their new NW bosses actually give a flying cessna about them.

They will hit you so fast with the outsourcing hatchet that your outsourced replacement will be stepping over your rolling head as they take your job.

I know that NXNW.

They (the DAL employees) have no idea who they are dealing with.

I expect the ramp to be a wasteland. Think back to what happened at EAL with their ramp workers. I foresee the wholesale replacement of the ramp workforce throughout Delta Airlines. Who knows with the F/A's.

The only hope you have is if a Democratic Congress and President do something to turn the tide, or else you guys are toast.

I doubt DAL mtc will be going union anytime soon. The majority of the techs at NW are scabs. It doesn't make a lot of sense to be in a union with a scab. The remaining workgoups turned their backs on a workgroup striking to preserve the majority of their jobs. So, no, I do not think the DAL mtc tech will be interested, regardless who bad they might need it, in joining any union or supporting any union. The stab in the back of the other workgroups and the low life scabs taking the striking techs jobs is still a very open wound profession wide.

I (and a lot of my co-workers) agree.
A good bit of us were pro-union(AMFA) until we saw what happened with the NWA AMTs and the lack of support they received.
A good portion of the folks i've talked with also don't agree with the "and related" part of the equation also.

The "and related" is a result of an NMB ruling on class/craft from decades ago, and not necessarily any union's doing....

Just sayin'...

Yep and do you know who fought tooth and nail to keep the "and related" attatched to the AMT..You guessed it the IAM. Then the iam was sorry when they couldn't split the vote like they had so many times before and they finally lost to AMFA. Sometimes lobbying doesn't work out to your advantage. You know as well as I do that the NMB was loaded with former iam members. Why do you think it took more than a year to certify AMFA after we voted out the iam? Because the iam protested. Anyway...Is it snowing in your neck of the woods yet Kev? I wish only good luck for you guys even though I hate the iam.

Not for nothing, but I always thought it was strange that stock clerks weren't "related" to AMTS. I would have switched them with custodians/aircraft cleaners...

Was it really a year? It seemed like it went quicker than that....

It has already (just a little), but today it's supposed to be 72!

I wish only good luck for you guys even though I hate the iam.

Thanks! 🙂
