What's new

Interesting!

Sorry, but even though some human pilots may be cocky SOB's....I WANT one of them in the cockpit on the planes I am flying on. I say this having worked in IT for over 30 years and seeing what happens when "unexpected" things happen.
Define IT?

That could be anything from a programmer to servers to network specialists. Maybe you were a jack of all trades.

The reason I ask is because AI (machine learning) is the big push now. You say you are against having a computer or "bot" fly an aircraft (and I agree) but how do you feel about self driving cars? If those are successful how far is the comfort level of handing control over to a machine going to go?

I am not a fan at all of self driving cars. What is the reaction time of a self driving car when another car weaves into your lane? What kind of evasive maneuvers have been programmed into these things? I've been on freeways in Dallas where traffic was flowing at 60 and someone in front suddenly slammed on their breaks. I steered to the left (towards the emergency lane and guardrail) and squeezed past the car in front of me while other drivers on the right ended up going on the hill to the right. How quickly can a self driving car respond to that?

That is what happens when you have a mixture of self driving and human drivers but, what if they were ALL self driving?

What do you think having AI driven cars linked with each other would mean for traffic congestion. Beep and creep could be mitigated or perhaps eliminated in some areas.

One day the thought of driving a car on road might seem as archaic as a crank phone.

I think cars will retain driver capability for off road however. Then there is the question of motor cycles.

"some"?....Merely "some"? Please give ample credit where due. Sigh...The unmitigated arrogance of you mere mortals serves to astonish! 😉

All laughs aside about all of us mere mortals; let us all take time some this Memorial Day to remember and honor our fallen who gave up everything for us, most of which hadn't even the "privilege" of dying in a cockpit.
