Is US going to apply for RIO (GIG) starting in June or RIO (GIG) in October? For June, a US 767 could do RIO with a few restrictions, but that's about it. Too bad they didn't retain the 2 332 LX Leases. If they apply for October, they'd potentially have already received the 3rd 332 in September. This is an interesting development. Let's see what Tempe does. Click on the PDF link for details:

Let's hope so. I know the company has wanted to get down to South America. Rio would be great but EZE is Buenos Aires (Argentina). I didn't see anything mentioning Argentina, just Brazil.

Just typed too fast - fixed. Yep, this solicitation is only regarding Brazil.

I'm guessing that it would be out of CLT? Frankly, it would be killer out of PHL. PHL has an upper NE population that would fill that plane in a heartbeat. Philadelphians will go on any nonstop that has a beach, not to mention Philly's large gay community. I think that Rio would be as, if not more lucrative than another European destination.

The only thing is, they'd better get their business class together, there is a significant market for First class in S. America, but they expect an actual product.

Viva Rio!

I think I said 2 Months ago look for 2 S America Flts from CLT in the fall and alot on here Blasted me for saying it. HMMMMMMMMM. Also heard.....Berlin for this year..757ETOPS....

This would be a real winner from Philly....there is a huge Brazillian population in NE Philly.I know it would sell well which is why we wont even apply for it!!!!!Par for the course.

We can fill it up with the brand new aircraft we have coming this year. We are getting more new 190s right?

US will be fighting a HEAVY uphill battle for any of these 14 wkly frequencies. Remember, that these frequencies can be used for service to any Brazilian city other than GRU, which includes cities like BSB where there is currently no nonstop service to the US.

CO has already applied for 7 wkly for IAH-GIG, which I would say has the best chance of any possible award out there. NK applied a while ago for FLL-MAO and I'd fully expect AA and DL to apply for JFK-GIG or MIA/ATL-BSB or MIA-FOR (AA only).

US will have to make the argument that it deserves the frequencies since it would be a new-entrant, as opposed to AA/DL/CO which are well-entrenched in Brazil. However, I'd expect AA/DL to come back with an equally convincing argument that these frequencies could be better used to serve cities other than GIG/GRU in Brazil, which are already well served from the states.

I think youll see Berlin start in 2010, too late for service to start this summer. Currently, Berlin Tegel is way too congested and has such a small terminal. I think it would be wish to wait on Berlin service until the new Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport is open in the near future.

They looked at Stockholm with a 757 and decided it was too far. Berlin is another 100+ miles further from PHL.

(Besides that....don't encourage them. We already do enough 757 flying to Europe.)

But that won't stop them from trying...

PHL-ARN resumes 05/23 with a daily B757 for the summer (was 6wkly B767 service in 2008)

Really, it ought to work OK; I know CO's B757s are apparently rated a little higher than ours, but they also seem to be able to fly EWR-ARN in the winter as well, with no major issues.

I would agree that TXL is probably too far though, plus there is probably some decent cargo opportunities there that the B767 could take advantage of. DUS would be a good B757 city, and it is also becoming the new focus city for LH, now that FRA and MUC are at/near capacity.

No new E190s this year.
23 new AC and I think they are either A321s or A330s.

CO 757s have an additional 4 to 5 thousand extra lbs. of fuel (a paperwork issue Tempe is too cheap to implement) as well as the ability to provide a cabin interphone HF access in the case of a Medlink problem. Quit trying to compare US with CO. Not applicable, in any stretch of the imagination.

Tempe is trying to bend safety in these issues. I say, shut those cretins down. Draw a bright line in the dirt and dare those freaks to cross it. I would love to go public with their continued foolish activities. Oops, I guess I did.

Be that as it may, guaranteed, I will force a landing, if IMO, necessary, at any appropriate field. That would include landing someone like Rumsfield/Addington at AMS for war crimes.
