This evening (Thursday March 4, 2004) ISP had low vis because of fog, with vis less then 1/2 mile causing flights to hold, divert and waste fuel. Currently, ISP only can handle flights that can land in RVR >2400 and take off >1600feet. You would think that if SWA could come up with $ 60 Million dollars to build its own terminal, The ISP airport people would spent the $$$ to improve field lighting to the highest standards. What are they doing with all the PFC money???

On that note, I just came in from working a flight that left for Islip at 6pm. It had it's gear down ready to land when they decided to close the airport and send the airplane back to BNA.

Flying out of Brookhaven I've flown into KISP many times for training.

I agree that the lights at ISP need improvement. If you fly long island you will note how Farmingdale is actually better lit than Islip and more easily seen.

I wonder why... after all, Islip has part 121 traffic out of it. As far as I know Farmingdale has only Part 135 traffic.
