IMHO - this is a big mistake...

Not sure if I totally agree. The 2x2 seating sounds appealing. The range for the aircraft is decent - 2100 miles. The lack of commonality is problematic. Why not simply opt for A-318s?

Wow....thats a lot of small sized competition coming on line.

I think the economics of 50 seaters is going to get tougher...

Just like the RJ represented the big growth segment in the 90s, the 100 seaters will be the next big growth segment for the airlines. JetBlue just beat all the majors to the punch. I think its a very bold move by JetBlue, and frankly I think a smart one. And yes, the economics of the RJs will get a lot tougher.

"JetBlue just beat all the majors to the punch." Don''t know if I''d go that far. AA and US had lots of 100 seaters laying around - they were flying under mainline colors.

2100NM Range.....Sounds like a lot of point to point to me.

JB is doing well, why mess-up a tried and proven track record??

Yep, wouldn''t you love to know what the folks at Southwest think of this move? Maybe somebody will post a link.

Slightly off-topic, but a follow-on from will fix for food''s point:

Will the development and maintenance of the ERJ-190 differ significantly from the ERJ-170 that is slated for delivery and introduction into service later this year? The -170 may offer many common features and any bugs may be worked out in the -190 when its delivered - in 2005.

Jetblue has just become just another airline. They have moved beond the business plan and will follow all the others.

I think that before a judgement is made, you have to see what they have in mind. Are they going to start a hub type operation? More point-to-point, or a little of both? Also, what will the destinations be? JB is VERY customer oriented, so I would expect them to be very nicely appointed, and probably used spoke style in the AM and late PM, some point-to-point midday for close in destinations. Remember, Neeleman was one of the "brains" behind SW, as well as JB. He has a good handle on what folks seem to want, and how to do it economically.

Ouch...will they be the launch customer? Even if they aren/t, it will be an extremely new type, which makes for an enormous amount of very expensive teething problems.
